Imperial College, no less. He's in his 60s, worked on multi bill8on pound IT projects, he can mend anything and has saved us thousands in tradesmen's bills...

and he's just come for help because he can't put a new filter into our water filter jug - you know, the bog standard ones you get in the supermarket. 🙄

Mine is also an engineer. Medical supplies.

Couldn’t fit my daily pill box thing together when it fell apart. ( it is designed to cone apart and go back together easily)

Overthebow · 15/02/2026 19:56

I think you have to work to both your strengths. He’s obviously very clever and has been helpful, but this isn’t something he could do easily so you help for this one.

Mine is an engineer too and cannot work the washing machine!

WhitstablePearl · 15/02/2026 19:58

Bollocks he can't! 🤣

SouthwarkLass · 15/02/2026 20:01

Mine is an engineer and has just lost the plot because he can't fix a new door handle to the patio door. He's an electrical engineer, PhD. I told him to just call a locksmith or handyman and his response was 'I can't, I'm an engineer'

BillieWiper · 15/02/2026 20:04

My dad was also an engineer. A senior production engineer in charge of managing the building and operation of oil platforms. He was a troubleshooter brought in when things were going wrong in the most stressful and dangerous environments.

But given the task of assembling a four year old's toy play kitchen he'd leave a path of destruction that resembled some kind of terrorist attack or major natural disaster. Screaming and swearing the house down for hours and completely forgoing the use of the instruction manual.

Mine is an engineer
Love him, he can fix anything!

DinoLil · 15/02/2026 20:05

Until I sacked him, I recently had a guy installing a new bathroom (I've made many a post about this). He said the only reason he got married was because he doesn't know how to cook or use a washing machine, that wiping down a window before painting it was 'women's work' and admitted to regularly seeing escorts.

Vile, vile man.

TheFallenMadonna · 15/02/2026 20:10

DH is also an Imperial engineer. He is actually exceptionally useful, but that isn't down to his thorough training in fluid mechanics and whatever else he did.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/02/2026 20:10

I used to be a childrenswear designer, and can make any item of clothing.

I used to turn my trousers and curtains ip with parcel tape.

l think the brain packs in sometimes

FemaleEngineer · 15/02/2026 20:11

As per my username, I have a degree in engineering and am a senior engineer by trade. DH does anything related to engineering in our house (apart from IT). He fixes the car, does wiring, DIY etc. I’m the only one who knows how to use the washing machine though 😂

TheFallenMadonna · 15/02/2026 20:16

Mine did once have a job in medical engineering and briefly tried to mansplain protein structure to me (PhD in, er, that). But, he can fix anything, so I forgave him.

TheSandgroper · 15/02/2026 21:29

Dh is a techie engineer type, works to tolerances of parts of a millimetre etc. Normally very useful to have. We bought a Bluetti Powerbank thing. “We’ll wait for the power to go out and then charge it up”.

8TinyToeBeans · 15/02/2026 21:35

I'm a structural engineer. I can't rotate shapes. I am also incapable of ignoring things that need fixed and hate things I can't fix myself. And I fret about cosmetic plaster cracks even though I know they're not structural issues.😂
