Ganglion cyst

Has anyone had medical intervention for one?

I have one on my foot. It doesn't bother me much during the day but the pain in the early hours is such that I haven't had a decent night's sleep in weeks.

The NHS view is that it's harmless and should resolve itself eventually, but I know there are possible treatments, which I'd likely have to pay for. Any experience/advice?

Isn’t the age old treatment to hit it with a bible?

I’m not advocating you do this. Dont. If it’s causing you pain then I would see the GP.

Is that the old age treatment or the old age testament?

I had one removed in hospital 40 years ago! It was on the side of my big toe. It would probably take years for the OP to come through now. I was admitted as an in patient and had it done under general anaesthetic.

My sister had one removed in hospital but it grew back. A few years later she got her partner to hit it with a very heavy book. Boom, it disappeared never to be seen again! I promise this is a true story!

I have one on the knuckle of a finger. GP refused for me to have it removed because it doesn't hurt and therefore "there is no benefit". But he did say that if it started to hurt I could go back to him and they would look at getting me listed for surgery. In your case there would be benefit because the pain would be dealt with along with the cyst. Having said that, surgical treatment does come with risk risks. If you're fine with that, I would go back to the GP.

Yes apparently they used to all them Bible cysts because that was the standard treatment. Very much not recomended now because of apparent risk of infllection.
