Daily face wash - what do you use for dry skin?

Hello lovely ladies! I need some skincare advice. I have really dry skin on my face. For a good couple of months, I used this face wash everyday and it made my dry skin even worse. I do moisturise my face after every shower.
I don't wear make-up.
I would like suggestions on how to clean my face everyday- I don't want to buy any more face washes. I just saw this online - Cetaphil Hydrating Foaming Cream Cleanser Face Wash.
Would this cream cleanser NOT dry out my skin?
I honestly don't know what to use on my face. When I was a kid/teenager, I used to use old-fashioned soap on my face and had no problems.

I haven’t tried the Cerave (although have heard great things about it) but yeah a cream cleanser transformed my dry skin! I use the Trilogy Rosehip one, you can buy online or at Holland and Barrett.

I was using Cera Ve & was happy with it except it's not considered cruelty-free & I'm trying to move away from that, so I've begun using Lyonsleaf Beauty Balm as a cleanser & finding it great for my middle aged drying out skin

pinksummer · 15/02/2026 17:01

You’d be better off using a cream cleanser and wiping off with a soft flannel, take as much water out of the flannel before you wipe off the cleanser. One of the CereVe cleansers would be fine. Also only do this at night. No need to cleanse your skin in the morning if you have very dry skin.

Aquaeous (sp?) cream can be used as a face wash.

I have the most ridiculously dry snd sensitive skin. This is by far the most moisturising and gentle on my skin.

cantankerousoldcrone · 15/02/2026 17:46

I just wash my face with water in the shower, been doing this for 60 years, all good.

JudgementalCat · 15/02/2026 17:47

I found cerave drying. I second LRP toleriane dermo cleanser - it's the only thing I've found that doesn't dry my skin.

A balm.cleanser works for me and my v dry skin. I like the farmacy one. The elemis one is good too. The Pure one from M&S is nice. Byoma at similar price point. I hear good things about elf but havr never tried it. I fidnt like the trinny one so much. Body shop camomile one is c effective.

Same here. Followed by moisturiser as we live in a hard water area. In soft water areas I don’t even need moisturiser.

The only time any type of cleanser touches my face is if there is something on it that doesn’t come off with plain water, such as greasy sunscreen. Even then, I prefer to cleanse my face with generous amounts of moisturiser before showering.

CapitanSandy · 15/02/2026 18:11

The Skin Rocks cream cleanser is nice.

I have super dry skin, even water dries my skin out. However I have recently started using Beauty of Joesen Korean skincare - moisturiser, spf and serums - and my skin has managed to get through this winter without its usual dry breakouts and blotchiness. I now can clean my face with micellar water at bedtime and follow with serum and moisturiser, and just use water in the mornings.

Middlemarch123 · 15/02/2026 20:49

I have very dry skin OP, so I empathise.
At night I take my eye makeup off with Nivea eye makeup remover. Then wash my face with baby soap. Then liberally use Astral to moisturise. In the morning, I just splash with cool water, then apply the Astral. Have good skin, very few lines and wrinkles, and at 64, now realise that ‘old school’ and keeping it simple is best. I’ve tried very expensive products over the past years, and my cheap regime suits me best.

Dove

Back2TheDrawingBoard · 15/02/2026 22:21

get the non foaming version of cerave hydrating cleanser.
or per a prev poster, lrp toleriane

IceOnTheLake · 15/02/2026 22:24

Just a flannel and warm water. Then moisturiser whilst skin is still damp. Works perfectly.

louderthan · 15/02/2026 22:25

I use Simple cleansing oil. Massage onto face (don’t wet your face first) then take off with a warm flannel.

Yellowsubmarine55 · 15/02/2026 22:25

I prefer cetaphil to cerave but either non foaming ones are good. Currently using lidl's dupe and it's less drying than cerave.

RaininSummer · 15/02/2026 22:27

I just use dove with a flannel and warm water and use micellar water and a bamboo pad at night as I wear light make up. Do use facial oil and moisturizer afterwards though.

poetryandwine · 15/02/2026 22:28

I use the Cetaphil cream to foam, OP, and I like it. However my skin is sensitive but slightly oily.

I have tried the LRP Toleraine linked above. I think if I had drier skin I would prefer it tobthe Cetaphil. U

The Medik8 lipid oil cleanser is gorgeous. I have dry skin and this leaves it silky!

AsCoolAsKimDeal · 15/02/2026 23:12

Farmacy Green Clean in the evening, Bioderma gel (the pink one) in the shower

OliviaBonas · 16/02/2026 00:14

I have similar skin and use Avène Tolerance Control Extremely Gentle Cleanser for Very Sensitive Skin morning and night.

me too! everyone used to say what do you use on your skin becasue I looked young although thats gone now becasue I look haggard after having a horrific psychotic breakdwon

somekindof · 16/02/2026 10:07

Why do you need a cleaning product if you have dry skin and don’t wear makeup? I’m the same and just splash with water. What needs to be cleaned off? It’s just bit of dust from the day…

tealandteal · 16/02/2026 11:08

After the birth of my second child my skin changed completely, I suddenly had dry skin that reacted to everything! I use Nip+ Fab and I actually get compliments on my skin now which is not something I ever had before. I use the peptide oil cleanser which is very gentle and moisturising but also removes makeup on days I wear it. Even on days I don’t wear makeup I am surprised how much seems to come off my face. I also use the ceramide moisturiser which is supposed to repair the skin. I wouldn’t describe my skin as dry anymore.
