Best jewellery cleaner for silver chains

I’ve bought quite a few over the years but not really been overly impressed. I think the soaks work better than cloths on chains.
ive used the tin foil/vinegar/nicarb mix successfully on cutlery but doesn’t seem to work as well on chains.
Any tried and tested recommendations please?
Thanks

I am a jeweller and we use town talk silver dip. Use it in a well ventilated area though - it’s not very good for you.

Thank you @Thingsthatgo, I did actually see that one when I was looking, good to have your recommendation - and the ventilation advice

I've got some of that dip, but I prefer to use a silver polishing cloth.

@Thingsthatgoas an expert you can tell me that I am doing it completely wrong 😂but I just gently pull the chain through the cloth held between my thumb and forefinger.

I don't like the hue of the stuff that has been in the dip.

@NameChangeSOS that works well, especially with a more solid chain like a curb. If you have an open chain like a belcher for example, it won’t clean the tarnish from the inside of the links and a dip is more effective.

I was at a charity shop last summer and I purchased a silver rope chain for £1.
What a deal, I thought!
But it was a dull grey with tarnish.
I'd never had a rope chain before and it presented a cleaning challenge.
I tried all of the tricks online that worked with my other silver chains, ( look away @Thingsthatgo lol) but in the bright sunlight it still looked dingy.
Then I read to take a soft bristled toothbrush, put a dab of toothpaste on it, and gently massage the paste into the chain.
I gently worked inch by inch and went over it twice, rinsed it very well and was so happily surprised at how well it restored the bright silver chain.
Of course I don't expect anyone to use this advice but I found the advice online and it worked for me.
I used Sensodyne fresh mint, not sure if there is an ingredient in it that would be more likely to take the tarnish off silver!

Well I will certainly give toothpaste a go before buying the cleaner! Doesn’t toothpaste contains something like baking soda?

Gin is good for cleaning silver jewellery. 🙂
