Best sofa bed for daily sleeping

I've decided to switch round the bedrooms in my home so my 3 children get a bedroom each - this means my husband and I will be sleeping in the living room til my 16 year old moves out!

Who knows how long that will be for but at least another 2.5 years, so we want to get a sofa bed that is comfortable to sleep on.

Does anyone else sleep daily on a sofa bed or have a recommendation for a really comfy one?

Not a sofa bed suggestion (sorry!) but I did the same as you. Depending on how big your lounge is - I put my double bed at one end of living room then had like a free standing screen thingy and then at the other end was the sofa and tv etc. Didn’t need much floor space in the lounge end as my dc were beyond the age of having big toys so only played Lego (room enough for that) in the lounge. Sure you have already thought about it but if not it’s a suggestion. I knew myself that I wouldn’t put the sofa bed back everyday 🙈 so didn’t go for that option.

I would be inclined to do this.

I’m looking for one too op, as I am
moving us all around and need a sofa bed for when my eldest is back from uni. I don’t know yet whether it will be me or him using it, but as I have a bad back I want something that will be comfortable enough for me!

I’ve been looking at the Dreams website - if you look at the reviews of their sofa beds, several of them get very good reviews. I am planning to go to a store that it says are in stock so that I can try them all.

looking at the Darlings of Chelsea website as recommended by someone further up, but could to with knowing which model the pp recommends as there’s a large selection and they aren’t cheap! But the made up beds look very comfy on there. They’re more expensive than I wanted to pay, but comfort is very important so if there’s a huge difference in comfort then I’d rather pay more.

How big is your living room? Could you have a double bed in a corner with a screen or curtain? There are some good ideas online.

it might be a hassle having to make up the sofa bed every evening and morning.

The IKEA pull out daybeds are very good. The Hemnes has three big drawers which would be good for packing away the bedding.

Probably less comfortable as a sofa though. You could get big cushions for the back.

It's an excellent sleeping area when pulled out.

But will it fit with your room layout? If you go for a more traditional sofa bed style then I'd invest in a memory foam topper as well.

You could also consider a pull down wall bed.

We have had a metal action sofa sprung with a proper mattress and it was really uncomfortable and it squeaked. This was replaced with a 3 seater Oke from the Futon company and is so much more comfortable.

Usually it is only for occasional use but due to a recent injury I had to sleep on it for a couple of weeks, (not as soft as a mattress) but very comfortable.

That sounds very familiar.
A lot of them seem fine at first but then you notice the compromises pretty quickly — especially if it’s being used more than occasionally.
The pattern we kept seeing was that anything with a thinner fold-out mattress just wasn’t great long term, no matter what people said about it.

How about considering a futon? My friend had one for years for her studio flat and it was still in use as a guest bed afterwards and I slept on it several times.

Not bought in the UK, sorry.
