I just found out "o'clock" means "of the clock." 🤯

What have you just found out? 🧐😊

Really? I had no idea! It never occurred to me to even think about what it stood for.

Reading another thread, I just learned there is a Nose of the Brie and etiquette around same. I Googled it:

In cheese etiquette, "the nose" of the Brie refers to the narrow, pointed tip of a wedge, often considered the most ripe, creamy, and flavorful part. It is widely considered poor etiquette to cut off this tip (known as "nosing" the brie) and leave only the firmer rind for others.

  • Proper Cutting Technique: Instead of cutting off the tip, you should slice the wedge lengthwise from the narrow "nose" to the wide rind end. This ensures everyone gets a mix of the gooey center and the flavorful rind.
  • Why Avoid It: The nose is often the most mature part of the cheese, and taking it for yourself is considered greedy.

I didn't know this either but I love things like this. My husband knew though, bloody clever clogs 😂

When I lived in France for a bit, I was quickly introduced to cheese etiquette. All sorts of things a typical Brit wouldn't know. Much later, in my office we frequently had cheese and nibbles on Friday afternoons as a treat and I was horrified that people did not know about the 'nose' on Brie, They learned quickly however 🤭 Then we had an intern who spent a LOT of time in France, and she argued 'til she was blue in the face that I had made it up ! Luckily 'tinternet existed then so she had it to take it 'on the nose' (she wasn't happy about having to defer to me tho') 😂

If you read Jane Austen you’ll find that they used to refer to a sennight, rather than to a week.

I asked google where all this bloody rain is coming from - well I never knew!

All the rain we have comes from somewhere else on earth. So when we're having the deluge we've been having since seemingly forever - somewhere else is having a drought. Their water has been scooped up into the atmosphere and dumped on the UK. Charming!
Not an expert on these matters - so don't bother being a science pedant - I'm sure you get the gist!

Learning the water cycle was a component of my first year uni geography course. I live in an area where we experience the rain shadow effect, if you care to Google that one. 🤓

Interesting!
Currently now googling homes for sale on the leeward side of mountains. I'd be happy in a tent right now tbh so long as it isn't bloody raining!!

I just read that Neil Sedaka died; started Googling info about him; learned he wrote a hit for the Monkees. That led to a click on Who was the richest Monkee? and learned it was Mike Nesmith due to a large inheritance from his mother, Bette Nesmith Graham, who INVENTED LIQUID PAPER. 🤯
