What's your dream home?

I love our little house but I was looking at the Omaze house in the Cotswolds earlier and it's absolutely beautiful. It's perfection and it's definitely my dream home.

What would be your dream? City or country, modern eco house or old cottage?

I want an Eichler!!! I've wanted one since I was a kid in the '60s and friends of our family lived in one.

What was originally an affordable family home in the '60s now cost upwards of a cool million.

Justdancinginthedark · 13/02/2026 18:56

A cottage with uninterrupted sea views and a cosy fire. No open planned rooms.

A terraced three/four bed (or three bed with self contained flat) off kings rd in Chelsea, preferably on a garden square.

I love our home but would like more parking and I wouldn't say no to a Seaview. And a on suite bathroom would be great and a bigger kitchen I'd love an island.

I like the look of it also but way too many possible entry points and glass to me for a relaxing life.

Something similar but more brick and ivy some wisteria please and thank you!

60 years ago, my parents took us to Cornwall for a holiday. I fell in love with a house in the village, so much so, it was always referred to as ***’s house.

Over the years, it’s been a ‘one day’ dream.

It’s for sale now and I keep looking at it (online) but it’s too much work for me on my own now. Lovely dream though. I’ll always love it ❤️

I love my home but the corner house is just so special somehow. Imagine waking up to this view.

I'd never heard of these! I can see the appeal though!

Sounds good, I'm with you on the open plan. Not practical at all if you like cooking and not cosy enough.

I also have a little cottage I always say will be mine one day! I'd be gutted if it came on the market as I doubt we could afford it in reality!

I grew up in So Cal and with all the glass they were just so full of sun. And I Ioved the atrium entries. It fascinated me that you opened what looked like the front door but when you stepped through it you ere still outside.

It is sad that homes have become dreams for so many of us. My dream home would be small and cozy a cottage with a lovely fireplace. I prefer the homes near national parks or new forest to the ones near the beach. I don't like the ones with en suites next to each bedroom as I just see that as more work. Not keen on open plan. I need a big kitchen that is closed off to the main living area.

Kepler22B · 15/02/2026 08:48

A 4 up 4 down well balanced Victorian villa with a spectacular sea view on the west coast of Scotland. Could be a 1.5 story house as I like bedrooms in the eves.

Downstairs - lounge, kitchen, dining room (could be one large room/ knocked through) extra room that would be a library.
Upstairs - main bedroom, guest bedroom and then 2 hobby rooms (one each).

OK 4.5 rooms downstairs and I dream about a proper utility room, which is big enough to be a drying room for 2 full loads and has a massive butlers sink which I can wash the dog in,

Why is it sad?

By the sea sounds lovely but not practical as our lives are set up in the middle of the country. A four bed in a nearby large town close to public transport and college for DC. Have seen the perfect house but it costs £1mil!

Motheroftheb · 15/02/2026 17:01

My perfect home would have a beach/sea view, but not be somewhere that gets overrun with tourists in summer.

I’d want to be walking distance to a nice village with a great pub and a shop for essentials, and easy driving distance to a town with other amenities.

The house itself - spacious, but not so big that we rattle around in it. Living room with huge windows looking out to sea. Open plan kitchen diner with two big ovens and a massive walk in larder. Utility room with plenty of room to hang clothes to dry.

Boot room with plenty of storage for coats. 4/5 double en suite bedrooms so the adult dc can stay comfortably. An outbuilding with a home gym/sauna and games room with space for a ping pong table/dart board, and maybe a hot tub to enjoy the sea views.

I don’t ask for much 😂

ForAmusedHazelQuoter · 15/02/2026 17:06

I live in, a 12 year old house, with lovely high ceilings, big bay windows, lots of bathrooms, solar panels so the bills are low, nice big rooms but it still feels cosy.

rainandshine38 · 15/02/2026 18:27

I love our home it’s an arts and crafts style home but it won’t be many years until we can’t stay here as the garden will be too unmanageable and it’s too big for two of us.

NormasArse · 15/02/2026 18:37

I’ve found the land for my house. It looks down onto a port/the sea. I’m going to buy it and put a small house there that is just enough for my needs. It will have a veranda.

itsthetea · 15/02/2026 18:45

It’s my house - only detached and with the rest of the street knocked down and a few more trees

and slightly bigger downstairs so that there is a hall to the kitchen and a bigger dining area. So I can have a comfy chair looking out to the garden

id quite like to move the whole town a bit more towards the coast but not so that you get tourists

but can not afford an penny more

UnimaginableWindBird · 15/02/2026 18:54

I'd like a tall elegant terrace with a big (for a city) garden within a 20 minute walk of my city centre. Or else an Arts and Crafts villa with a very big garden a bit further out, but still urban.
