How easy is it to learn?

I've always loved them and read they are one of the easiest instruments to learn to play.

I'm 53 soon and scared as hell I'm going to succumb to Alzheimer's like my poor mum so am currently doing all I can to learn new things and keep my brain as active as possible.

Dead easy. Find a local group, turn up. Someone will help you learn the basics.
You'll be playing in no time.
If I can, ANYONE can!

Apart from G. G is a bit of a bugger. But once you've got it, you'll wonder what all the fuss was about!

Thanks, I’ll have a look and see if there are any groups locally.

I don't, but my DD has one - she knows a little bit about music, had piano lessons when younger - but isn't keen on practice so didn't progress - and she seemed to find it pretty easy to learn enough to knock out a recognisable tune! They're quite fun instruments too. Give it a go. She had some low key lessons with a nice laid back teacher.

They are fun I think that’s why I’m so drawn to them. My parents used to go see the U.K. Ukulele orchestra and I’ve been interested in learning to play ever since.

Yes. I’m not particularly good, but I can play.

me taking up the instrument also inspired my parents to do the same.

i highly recommend it. They got really nice instruments and I have inherited one of them now that one parent has passed away. I just started with the common recommendation for cheap but functional for people who want to try it out, the Makala dolphin.

you also want a cheap case, a capo, and an electric tuner does make life easier though you can use your phone. The tuners are cheap though and work better.

there is a local club in my very small city. It’s a great entry level instrument and really fun.

our local community center periodically teaches an adult extension course in ukulele for people who want to learn. YouTube is also very helpful

Thank you for the advice. They are definitely an affordable instrument for me, can’t wait to stay.

I got one from my 50th, but sadly sliced my finger open quite badly and it took ages to heal. In the meantime dd picked it up and taught herself through books and YouTube. Shes got 4 now of different sizes and doesn't play as much but shes very good.
