Surgery tomorrow- RASH with photos

I've had this rash/marks for a few weeks. They looked like where my crutch hit and small bruises.

They never faded, then I had more on the other arm, then two - almost completely symmetrical, above each breast, now a few on one breast.

I asked the pharmacist, he said probably an allergy, but was busy.

I did an online consultation with my GP, explaining that I have surgery. Explained how they look, the feel and uploaded several photos. They simply said they have no idea and ask the surgeon on Friday (tomorrow).

I dont think it's an allergy - the redness fades at times, then comes back. They DO NOT ITCH.

They are very slightly raised and a couple look dry, but they look more like little bruises or burns than anything.

Hopefully the photos will be approved soon. I had a shower and used some Capsal (can't remember the name - it was coal tar shampoo), that my daughter had left from when she had psoriasis, so now smell of coal tar, but I'm 100% sure it's not contagious as I barely leave the house, share a bed with DH and am always cuddling DD and they've not got it

The photos are here!

I should add the surgery is for FESS.

I haven't changed any washing powder, any shower gel, anything. I did change my diet to very low carb just before Christmas and have recently changed from soya to almond milk, as it has fewer carbs, but I ate walnuts today, and the rash faded a bit after the almond milk, it seems random

Take some antihistamine to see if they fade. Don't panic, just mention it tomorrow before surgery.

Have you had itchy skin, I get marks like this if I’ve been scratching because of persistent itching.

ChipDaleRescueRangers · 12/02/2026 19:08

Looks like hives to me. Take some piriton and see how it goes.

HelloMama · 12/02/2026 19:15

I think it's Ringworm (fungal infection). Annoying but harmless. Spreads easily. Treat with antifungal cream.

wishfulthinking25 · 12/02/2026 19:16

Looks exactly like the rash I noticed on my daughter the other day Dr said hives. They are still coming up in random places then disappear completely after a few hours, they don’t itch DD.

That was my worry, but I don't think it is, as none of the patches have changed in three weeks, none of them are lighter, with a darker outline, they are not all round, some are like lines - exactly the same marks I get when I burn myself on the oven shelves, but I've not done that. I was thinking more pityriasis versicolor, but again, unsure.

It's been three weeks and no one else is affected. DD picks up the cat all the time and has her face next to her, I tend to leave the cat.

I do take antihistamines everyday, as part of my treatment and take diphenhydramine to sleep.

This is another of my arm, the one just above the crease is a line. The others looks exactly like little finger grip marks.

Sounds very hilarious, although the new marks haven't gone since they first appeared

Wil they cancel the surgery? Is it dangerous.

That’s why the GP said to ask the surgeon/hospital. Only they can decide. No one on mumsnet can tell you!

Possibly pityriasis rosea?

Possibly pityriasis rosea?

I wonder if you may be right. I remember DS having something like this, it was diagnosed as pityriasis rosea, but took ages to get the diagnosis, it was annoying as he was sent home from school, and it took two GPs to get the diagnosis, that was 20 years ago, so it slipped my mind.

I know, I was just hoping someone would say how dangerous it was.
