Absence %'s school - EHCP

A quick question for anyone who knows..

My child has missed 5 days of school since September. Sick three times (food poisoning, s&D bug) and twice was due to pain. They have some medical issues which form part of the EHCP and they are also receiving DLA due to same problem.

School haven't said anything - yet.

Am I likely to get a letter/phone call?

Am actually realy pleased with their attendance as I thought they would become a school refuser so to be in Feb with only 5 days feels like a win to me. But it's now sitting at 91%.

Drops below 90% is usually the trigger I think. Maybe don't borrow trouble!

Ok. Obviously hoping he doesn't have any more sickness!

It’s not really 91 because we’re not even halfway through the school year. So for example 5/90 days off is going to be a higher percentage than 5/200 (while school year but made up numbers)

You'll get the standard shitty letters about attendance when you drop below certain percentages. I think they're mostly automatic.

It doesn't mean you will be fined. The EHCP and medical evidence should protect you from that.

It sounds like your child is doing really well and has good attendance considering they have health issues and have had some sickness.

Ignore Sundayvibes - they clearly think EHCPs and DLA are handed out for nothing. 🙄

@Lindy2what are you on about? I never mentioned ehcp or dla?

Well, it says 91% on his class charts app. Whether they adjust it for precisely this reason, I have no idea.

Thank you. My child also has school trauma and threatened to kill himself when he was younger so I am honestly delighted he's only got 5 days. Feels like a huge win. It's just you know you're nearing getting letters.

Genuinely felt better back in the day when they just dealt with kids (and parents!) who were taking the piss and just couldn't be arsed going in rather than penalising a child who has known medical problems.
