4yo with suspected uti - what would you do?

My 4yo dd has been with my PIL all day and they told me at 5.30pm tonight she’s been in pain when weeing today and holding herself. At bedtime she was crying and in pain when on the toilet. She’s exhausted tonight (not a good sleeper) so she’s gone to bed for 6pm.

I want to phone 111 and get her sorted asap, but also they’ll want to see her won’t they?

would you let her sleep or wake her up and take her to the walk in? I know it sounds like a silly question but part of me wants to just leave her asleep and deal with it in the morning but is that the wrong thing to do?

My 2 year old had this and we couldn’t get a GP appointment until last thing in the afternoon despite calling first thing so I’d leave her if she’s asleep. Our GP advised to give Calpol and to make sure she was drinking plenty if she was in pain. I wouldn’t wake her, unless she’s got a fever and other things that might make you feel concerned.

Okay, thank you. Luckily she has no other symptoms apart from being very tired. She’d be so upset if I woke her up I was just worried I was doing the wrong thing leaving her

I’d call/ take her in if they want to see her.
I suspect she’ll wake up in pain in the night, and then you’ll be going in the small hours anyway. May as well go over while it’s a sensible time.

It’s not even 7pm so I’d phone now. A lot can change pain wise in 12 hours

I'd call and see what they can give you. If she needs anti-biotics she might well wake up in the night unsettled because of pain and needing to be seen. If it's not too busy now, you might be able to get through, get a quickish call back and have her out, seen, dose of antibiotics and home by 9 for some Calpol and back to bed. She can sleep until you need to go. Much better than her waking in loads of pain at 1am, clearly not going to be able to sleep again, and ending up having to do the whole 111 and waiting for a call back at some ungodly hour of the morning with a sick crying child who just wants to sleep but can't.

Yes you’re right I’m going to phone now. Thank you

A friend of mine had this situation with her 4-year-old DD.
Poor little one found it very painful to wee.
My friend ran a warm bath for her DD and let her sit in it where she was able to wee sitting in the warm water and it didn't hurt her.
Of course this was just because it was in the evening before she was able to call the GP.

I would call GP in the morning.
111 if she gets worse.
