Microfibre cloth in wash load disaster

musicinspring1 · 07/02/2026 21:40

I did a load of washing without realising someone had chucked a microfibre cloth in the drum. It came out with the shiny plasticy bits all over the clothes.
i thought I would just rewash without the cloth but that didnt work …
any ideas ?! And does it matter ? I just didn’t like the idea of the plasticy bits on the clothes ?

I wash all mine in the machine and never had this problem? Are you sure they're microfiber?

musicinspring1 · 07/02/2026 21:46

I’m not sure now ? Label says wash separately - it’s a fluffy type cloth that’s been used for dusting- definitely spewed out silvery threads on everything else.

Never had this and I wash my microfibre dish cloths regularly. Strange.

Doubt it's microfibre. I put mine in a 60 degree wash with towels and/or bedding, and never have a problem.

So6nds like micro beads not microfibre. I was my microfibre in the general wash weekly, they do melt in the tumbler tho

musicinspring1 · 07/02/2026 21:52

That’s so strange - thanks for responding all.
any ideas of how to rescue rest of clothes if a rewash didn’t help?

Hang outside and let wind blow it off? Even if it's raining, you could wash again after

Same here, never an issue

Try rescuing a wash when a sanitary towel has accidentally got involved!

User122333 · 07/02/2026 22:15

It might help to wrap sellotape round your hand sticky side out and pat the surface of the clothes to lift the fibres. Also some tumble-drying might filter out some fibres.

Oh my goodness ! Did anything help?!

Thanks all. - no tumble dryer here but I’ll try the hanging outside and attacking with sellotape if still needed !

We’ve had tissues disintegrate in a wash and the shreds generally come off and into the filter when tumble drying. So if you have a dryer I’d use that for whatever you can and use tape or lint roller on the rest.

begone25 · 07/02/2026 22:20

Do you have a tumble dryer? You might find a fair bit comes off in that, otherwise buy a clothes brush that has a velvet like pile and scrapes the fluff off… or a sticky lint roller (muji sell big ones that are designed for furniture but might be good in this situation)

Sunshineandrainbow · 07/02/2026 22:21

Have you a launderette near you? Take there and just use the dryer. It has saved me some tissue disasters.

Mundaywinner · 07/02/2026 22:21

A rewash with fabric conditioner is sometimes helpful if tissue or stuff has been washed with clothes , so may work in this case too?
Or Hoover them over when dry? Lint roller?
And like another poster suggested, on the washing line on a windy dry day works well but … not many dry days lately.
That said , the very best remedy for things that cover stuff in the wash usually is ….a microfiber cloth 😆

rainbowruthie · 07/02/2026 22:24

This sounds highly unlikely but I promise it is true...for tissue add an aspirin and rewash
