Good morning from dd1's uni accommodation bed! Dd's just gone to make my first cuppa before we start moving for the day - we were at a gig last night so awake a little later than usual. I haven't heard from dd2 yet.

I have big plans for the day - dd is less enthusiastic 🤣. I saw a stationers in Westminster, on Tiktok, so want to head there first...then a stop off to see Buckingham Palace...and Oxford St for the Dr Martens shop. I've saved my Vinted earnings for the past year to buy a pair so am going to take advantage of dd's student discount. All on the Jubilee line from here so should be do-able (but busy).

Later on, dd wants to head the opposite way In Wembley for Savers and, I think, Iceland, for a few frozen items. I'll do her a shop at Asda before leaving she doesn't need loads.

We're heading to Nando's for tea, unless something takes our fancy while we're out. And I'm not sure what we're doing with the rest of the evening 🤷‍♀️.

I'll find out what dd2's up to with her dad when I speak to her. I suggested they go out for tea or the cinema the other night but neither seemed thrilled at the idea. I suspect she'll want to stay in and revise for her upcoming mocks.

What about all of you? 🙂

Im working today unfortunately. Enjoy your weekend @lucysmam.

To the poster looking for a good real life crime documentary, the one on itvx just now about John Wayne Gacy:Devil in disguise is excellent. But way to terrifying for me , dh will need to finish it alone.

Up fairly early this morning to get me and the children (4yo and 11mo) ready to go to a machinery sale with DH. Just got home, DHs gone to unload his ‘treasures’ 😂 at the yard, 4yo and I are watching Frozen and 11mo is asleep in the car. My mum is coming over shortly I think, just for a tell and a cuppa, altho she’s a busy bee type so I expect she’ll also put washing away, clean my kitchen, maybe whizz the hoover round etc 😂

Simonjt · 07/02/2026 13:48

Good afternoon now anyone, I started hyrox a little while ago and I’m starting hyrox doubles so I had a training session with my new doubles partner so that was good.

Our sons at a birthday party today, so my husbands taken our daughter to one of those play town/village things. So its unusually quiet at home. Once everyones home we’re going to have a snacky dinner and put the rugby on.

Clafoutie · 07/02/2026 14:00

I always think you sound like such a lovely mam @lucysmam Your DDs are lucky to have you! It’s lovely that you spend time together having fun. Hope you are enjoying your day, rain be damned!

You’ve left your baby in the car alone? Are you serious?

Busy morning here. We are skiing at half-term so needed a trip to Decathlon to top up base layers, gloves, etc. DH bought a new helmet.
Home for lunch, another load of washing on, now I'm watching the rugby.
DH and DS are at the teatime football.
Online shop coming at 5ish
DS is out for an 18th (again), so carbonara, wine and telly for me and DH.

cupfinalchaos · 07/02/2026 14:47

On our way up a mountain in Australia for a ski week! Taking grown up dcs and all their partners so have a coach for 10!

Giggorata · 07/02/2026 14:53

Good afternoon lucysmam and all.
I have spent the morning in the community shop and am now back at home sorting out laundry and doing lamb kebabs for a late lunch.
I'm out with the coven tonight, so getting some pizza ready to take, along with some cava.
DH will be having his steak and a peaceful evening watching the box with the dogs.
In between, I plan to finish off a couple of projects. I am putting extra backing on a very ornate and fragile gilt frame around a mirror, which will hopefully provide enough support to stop it crumbling away.
And I'm creating a tall walking stick stand out of cardboard and papier mache. I haven't been able to find any that are tall enough for the sticks and staffs that we have. (is the plural of staffs staves?)
Somewhere in there, I need to fill up the van with diesel and today might finally be the day I learn to operate its radio properly.

Queenoftartts · 07/02/2026 15:52

Waiting in for a delivery of some disability equipment for DD. I’m not saying what it is as it would be outing. Said it will be delivered between 9-5. I have a feeling it won’t be delivered today and will have to waste another day waiting in for it.

Sounds like a great weekend @lucysmam - I love reading your updates each weekend, your daughters have a great mum!

I am having a very lazy day, mainly on the iPad with cat cuddles every so often. My dad died a couple of weeks ago. Complicated relationship and the way it’s hit me has surprised me and knocked me for six. Also about to hit the two year anniversary of losing my lovely mum so, all in all, feeling a bit untethered right now. Sorry, just realised that isn’t very cheerful for weekend chat.

I’ve never worn DMs before - are they comfy? Really like the look of the ones posted.

I’ve had a late lunch of brioche burger bun with bacon medallions and avocado - it was bloodily lovely. Having a catch up call with my sister late afternoon and then dinner is going to be M&S chicken shashlik (my new favourite curry) with saag aloo and basmati rice.

After that I’m going to do an hour or two of diamond painting while listening to the radio on catch-up. I finished this one last week and am now working on one of a gorgeous silver/black Maine Coon. And I’ll probably watch an episode of the new series of the Lincoln Lawyer.

All of the above will take place while trying to block out the incessant grey skies and rain. I cannot wait for some blue sky and a bit of warmth, I miss my garden!

Ijwwm · 07/02/2026 16:10

Can’t attach finished picture, it’s too big.

justtheotheronemrswembley · 07/02/2026 16:17

I've just been to the local charity shop and bought a book called The Keeper of Lost Things by Ruth Hogan. Do you ever get the uncanny feeling that someone's written a book about what you've got in your loft?!😂

The charity shop is next door to the supermarket, so I went looking for inspiration for tomorrow's dinner. Came out with some casserole steak and that's now gently bubbling away in the oven. I'm cooking it today so I can make a steak pie with it tomorrow.

DilemmaDelilah · 07/02/2026 19:04

@Giggorata I have a large plaster picture frame which is in very poor repair. What is your photo frame made if? If it's plaster do you have any tips for how to mend it? I bought some plaster of Paris bandages a while ago but have been too scared to give it a go.

It's an oval gift frame about 2ft x 1ft, maybe a bit bigger, where it is basically broken into several pieces but still holding together.. somehow. It's probably around 150 years old, judging by the picture inside (a pencil sketch of an ancestor). I could take it to be repaired professionally, but neither the frame nor the picture are worth more than a couple of quid. If it wasn't that it is a family picture I wouldn't bother at all.

Evening @lucysmam & everyone - very late to the party! Hope it’s a good Saturday for you all so far. Just chilling whilst DH does his indoor cycling & DD17 is out for a walk. Quite a busy day. I sold a ring this morning which has been on Marketplace for months - the same woman kept messaging with offers, initially silly ones, and eventually she bought it for £40. She was still trying to get me to let it go for £30. I’m happy as I only paid about £16! Dropped DD17 at the station then briefly home for brunch before starting a 4 hour shift. Much less busy than usual for a Saturday. Popped to Tescos for a few bits after work & bought parcel tape from Spar. Been using a bit for Vinted, although most things fit into those sealable post bags - must order more off Amazon. DH is making sausage pasta for tea. We might put a film on or watch more of The Good Doctor which we are both enjoying.

Tangerinesattack · 07/02/2026 20:11

Very late but hello everyone from Paris. Just enjoying a last glass of wine before bed. DS and I are having a smashing time but are completely shattered after a ridiculously early start this morning from Scotland then negotiating the Byzantine Parisian transport system from CDG. I am most disturbed by how Paris has changed in the 20 years. No, not unpleasant bigotry here - rather everyone has gone nice! So many small kindnesses and accommodations - it's really bizarre and so much more nicer than it used to be. I'm gobsmacked. Off to Sainte Chapelle tomorrow so we'll see if the loveliness continues. Bonne soiree tous les Monde!

Using the plaster of p bandages is brilliant for solid plaster frames, at least for the fronts. You could shape it to accord with the original, then glue the whole to a new supporting back, but I think you'd need to ensure that the hook or whatever on the back went through to the original back as well.

My mirror is quite ornate plaster, with gaps, and it is these that are crumbling. I have woven some fabric roses through the unsalvageable bits, glued, filled and re gilded the rest and now I am going to cut down and paint a thin wooden backing dark red, same as the wall colour, and glue it to the back.
The glass needs a good clean and the frame needs going over with a dry paintbrush to clean the crevices.
The photo is taken in poor light, but imagine all the white backing painted dark red and resized so you can't see the edges. I think it will be OK.

What a lovely mirror

Morning all, sounds like a lovely day you have planned @lucysmam

My DD is home this weekend which is unusual as she usually spends weekends at her boyfriend’s house. She’s still asleep now, I’ve just had a coffee on the sofa and am now waiting for the Tesco delivery. Once that’s unpacked and put away I’m planning to go for a run as it’s not raining here for a change!

This afternoon DD and I are going to the food market in the local park to have a browse, and will probably have an iced coffee and some sort of cake or pastry from one of the nice bakery stalls. On the way back I’m planning to pop to the range for some hooks for the door and a new mirror. When we get back I will relax for a bit with some yoga and meditation then tackle the laundry and change my bedding.

This evening it’s pesto sea bass for dinner, a long shower and hair wash, preparing lunches for work and planning my outfits, looking over my lesson planning for the week and then hopefully an early-ish night.

Morning all!
Just got back from a drizzly beach walk with the dog, he’s curled up on a towel on the sofa very much in the Land of Nod.

I’m having a lovely cup of tea with 2 Nice biscuits whilst scrolling on MN.

I’m going to do my strength training class on Zoom soon then I will get a shower using my gorgeous ESPA shower gel that I got for Christmas.
I will then make a super healthy lunch (chicken salad and a blood orange).
After that, I’ll prepare my work for the week, watch some Bridgerton and, just when it’s getting to a good bit, will probably get a call from DD to pick her up from school 😆
Then it’s a shorter dogwalk round the park, sort the washing and make the dinner, bangers and sweet potato mash.
Me and DH are going to see Strictly at the 02 on Saturday so I need to start thinking about what I’m going to wear.
I’ve recently gained a menopausal stone so this will be a challenge.
