Had something like this done and am not feeling it.

Could it be softened?

Maybe can be thinned out and use scissors in an upwards cutting action along the fringe to soften the blunt cut

Only by cutting into it vertically. This may mean it looks shorter though.

Just snip very small bits vertically. It might make it shorter, but it'll be looking okay after a couple of weeks. In the meantime blow dry it differently or use a clip or a headband until it's grown.

Another thing is to clip some of it back as a layer then vertically trim the layer underneath. When the upper layer is returned to its place, it won't look so thick and blunt.

I would ask about point cutting the straight and harsh fringe to soften the edge and give some movement, and create a softer, feathered look.

Yes I always ask for mine to be thinned, she sort of snips upwards with the scissors and it makes it wispier/feathered.
