I have a gap between end of meeting and catching my train at 7pm tonight - what is there to do from around 5-7pm in London?

Which part of London?

Newgirls · 05/02/2026 08:37

Heaven! Which train station so we can advise?

TwattingDog · 05/02/2026 08:37

Need the train station - Paddington, Victoria, Waterloo very different areas with a commute between them!

HippeePrincess · 05/02/2026 08:37

At tha time I’d be finding somewhere to eat and that’s it.

cadburygorilla · 05/02/2026 08:40

I go to the Evensong in Westminster Abbey when I have this gap

viques · 05/02/2026 08:44

Agree with @HippeePrincess . Too early for theatres, a bit too too late for galleries/ museums, too little time for shopping, cold and wet in London this morning and it gets dark early so not a good time to enjoy London’s open spaces.

Come back when you have more time and we will sort you an itinerary.

Well - that doesn’t help them though does it, given they have a couple of hours to fill today!

TwattingDog · 05/02/2026 08:59

Do they though @MidnightPatrol? For me today it's 35mins walk/tube from my office to Paddington, then I'll allow 15mins to grab a meal to take on the train and find the platform. If I was killing 2hrs, it's suddenly more like 1h 10m which isn't long to do much beyond have a meal or a very quick wander round something.

If OP isn't working centrally, it'll be harder to advise going for a walk around Westminster before getting the train from East London.

I agreed with @HippeePrincess that the best idea at that time of day was to find somewhere nice to eat.

I want people to enjoy my City but finding something on a cold wet early February evening for a couple of hours is a tough ask!

ZookeeperSE · 05/02/2026 09:06

We’re going to need to know both the area where the meeting is and which train station you need to get to…

Computadora · 05/02/2026 13:07

Train goes from Euston and I’m currently near Liverpool St - thanks all

Head up to Euston and have a potter round Camden? Or into Regents Park? Depends if it's raining!

Computadora · 05/02/2026 14:42

Not a bad idea but was definitely raining earlier!

It's a bit drizzly now (am at Paddington!), but could you take yourself out for dinner? The Roti King looks like the kind of place I'd like!

HelenaWilson · 05/02/2026 15:12

The British Library, close to Euston, is open until 8.00. Shop, free exhibition, cafe, space to sit (If not too full of students).

Ginmonkeyagain · 05/02/2026 15:19

ooh you can go to the Treasures Gallery.

Or on a similar note the Wellcome collection is open until 18.00 and they always have great free exhibitions.

Ginmonkeyagain · 05/02/2026 15:24

If it wasn't a horrific drizzly day i would use the time to walk from Liverpool St to Euston - it is an interesting walk. But it is horrid out there today, so I would probably just find a nice pub near Euston and hole up with a good book and a pint.

Two hours isn't really that long- once you have knocked off 30 mins (15 min to get the tube from Liverpool st to Euston and then you want to be on your train a good 15 mins before it leaves), then you only have 90 mins - just enough time for a leisurely pint or two or cup of tea and cake really.

Bertiebiscuit · 05/02/2026 15:28

Go to Spitalfields covered market, 5 minutes away from Liverpool street Station, fabulous food court, interesting stalls and pleasant environment. Or just go to Eataly, immediately outside Liverpool Street station, get excellent coffee, cake or gelato, pizza, negronis etc etc need i go on. Fantastic cafe/restaurant /food shop/deli

murasaki · 05/02/2026 15:51

The Wellcome Collection on the Euston Road? Often has interesting exhibits, and a decent cafe, and it's just over the road from the station. Or a pub. There's an ok one on Eversholt st, again, very close, just down the stairs at the far side of Euston Station.

murasaki · 05/02/2026 15:51

I'd get to Euston first, either way.

Computadora · 05/02/2026 23:52

Thanks all - I ended up heading to the British library, only to find that everyone had been evacuated! By the time I got in the bookshop was closed and I couldn’t get my reader pass, so I stuck to the free exhibition. I shall go back next time I’m in London to experience it properly.
