How do you keep your finger covered for weeks on end?!

Any ideas how to keep the index finger of your right hand pretty much constantly covered, without it going gross?

I've had a painful lump on my fingertip for the past six weeks which the pharmacist and GP are a little stumped by. The pharmacist thought possibly an unusual type of wart but told me to see a GP before treating it. GP thinks pyogenic granuloma and has told me to give it another six weeks before they'll look at treatment.

The problem in the meantime is that if it's a wart (or anything else contagious) I really need to keep it covered as I have a young baby and the underlying virus can apparently be quite bad in them.Tried covering it up for a while with duct tape as recommended on a few NHS pages for warts but because of the location it kept falling off with hand washing etc. I've also tried normal plasters but having it covered for so long seems to have irritated it and it's been quite painful and pus-y overnight.

Sounds trivial but it's surprisingly difficult to either keep covered or try to keep that finger from touching anything. Can't imagine another couple of months of this. Any bright ideas?!

If it doesn't need to be dressed like a wound then what about some very light cotton gloves. You can get them for eczema. You probably don't need to keep it covered 24 hrs a day, just when you are holding your baby.

Thanks @Anoninsomniac ! I had wondered about bandages but wasn't sure about keeping them clean/how many I'd need. One or day/few days? Probably need to buy in bulk, as long as that doesn't work out more expensive than just getting it privately treated now!

Look up finger cots, they're just little rubber tubes for your fingers

Ooh brilliant - didn't realise they were a thing! Thank you. It's a bit angry at the moment and the skin has broken but when it first came up (picture below) it probably didn't need a dressing. Hopefully it settles and goes back to that.

A leather finger stall with a light bandage underneath. I caught orf from a sheep once (don’t ask) and this is what the vet recommended.

looks to me more like a splinter or something. i'dbe bathing it in hot water & giving it a squeeze

That’s exactly how my pyogenuc granuloma started! But it was right on my finger tip so I kept it covered all the time. I used a gauze dressing then a bandage over the top which was a bit cumbersome but it did the trick- if it is a granuloma they can get quite large and oozy. But I would second the idea of the finger tube! Ps. Pester on at the gp about treatment. I waited three months for a dermatologist appointment for removal!
edited to say don’t squeeze- it makes them worse (learned that the hard way)

I have an appointment this Friday at dermatology for my pyogenic granuloma which is at the tip of my finger. Did they do the removal straight away for you, on your first appointment? What happened during the removal?

Finger cots are like a condom you roll onto your finger. Waterproof too.
Pharmacies sell them.
Clear nail varnish might work underneath?
Or sports tape, which is very adhesive.
Or a plain plaster.
