How often is your climbing frame used?

I'm looking to buy a climbing frame, I'm preferring a stainless steel option rather than the wooden style huts with climbing walls and slides etc.
But..is it a gimmick or are they well used??
The ones I'm looking at, you can adapt and add on stuff as well as upgrade the equipment as the children become young adults it's just a large outlay and I don't want to waste my money!

Rarely sadly! Trampoline far more versatile which I did not see coming.

Badgerstmary · 02/02/2026 12:08

Mine used to be used all the time. That, the trampoline & the pool were all in constant.

All the time- climbing frame was really well used. Unlike our play house which is a glorified and little used shed.

We have the tp explorer one that has a tent on top. They use it daily and jump from it on to the trampoline.

Ok so maybe depends on the child. I am confident my kids will use it but DH isn't and we are talking 2k so need to think carefully!

Definitely depends on the child. We've had ours for 6 years and it's been used maybe 10 times. It's so big and heavy I can't face the upheaval of getting rid of it.

Brewtiful · 02/02/2026 16:50

Honestly if you're looking to spend 2k on a climbing frame there are a lot better ways to spend that money that won't leave you disappointed when it's inevitably neglected once the novelty wears off. Realistically no young adult will still be adding stuff to a climbing frame so it won't be a good long term investment.

How old are your children?

I got ours 4 years ago when my children were 7 and 4 and it’s been well used. My eldest uses it less now but I’ve definitely had my money’s worth

Sprogonthetyne · 02/02/2026 16:57

Ours is one of the wooden, raised hut with slide types, but it does get used quite a bit in the summer, in combination with the other garden stuff. They're out most days April-September, and they'll have a climb and slide nearly every time they go out and use it as a clubhouse or other setting for pertend play.

Big however, it was £100 second hand off Facebook. Even with regular use I honestly don't think it would be worth £2000.

6.5 and 4 so I think perfect age to get it!

We had a second hand one which had a rope ladder to a hammock type platform, a trapeze bar, and a swing. It was pretty well used although not as much as the trampoline! I dont think I'd be spending 2k on one, though, it didn't get anything like enough use to warrant that much.

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 02/02/2026 22:45

Your children are a good age to get one ours was used a lot, got rid of it a few years ago as they were too big- still have the trampoline now although it isn’t used very often.
