Where would you go on holiday with a £3000 budget?

Looking for some holiday ideas for me & my 5 yo daughter this summer. 10 days, £3000, somewhere exciting, adventurous, travelling around rather than staying in one place, waterparks, beaches, nice scenery. Considering a campervan along the U.S. West Coast but any other ideas much appreciated!

Is the £3,000 for the flights and accommodation? Or the total holiday including food, car hire, visas etc

For the whole holiday ideally

I wouldn’t do a driving holiday with a 5 year old, nor fly as far as the USA west coast with a young child and only one adult.

Sorry no helpful ideas re locations.

Ikeameatballs · 01/02/2026 22:37

I would try something across Slovenia, Croatia and Italy. Depending on flights etc you could fly to Ljubljana in Slovenia, visit Lake Bled or stay there, then travel to Croatia eg Pula then Trieste.

I would stay in Europe and choose no more than 3 destinations to give you time to relax and explore.

Corfu then ferry to Albania could be another option.

MissAmbrosia · 01/02/2026 22:40

I would get an Interrail pass - free for your dd - and head off round Europe. £3000 will not go far getting flights to US.

TiredofLDN · 01/02/2026 22:44

3k doesn’t go far these days.

That’s about the budget I have for 10 days in Italy with DS9 in May - Rome (1 night- I hate Rome but he wants to see the Collesseum), 4 nights in Naples, 4 nights in Ischia), including flights, hotels, in-country travel and all expenses.

We’re flying budget airlines, staying in nice but not fancy B&Bs/hotels, and have budgeted 100E a day for lunch and dinner. I still think it will be tight financially.

Thank you for the suggestions. @Ikeameatballs I’ve always wanted to go to Slovenia and that part of Eastern Europe actually. Never considered going with my daughter though. Do you know if it’s quite child-friendly? (As in lots of stuff for kids to do like waterparks etc?) and if it has many campsites? @MissAmbrosia interrail would be good but I think all the changing trains/navigating cities on public transport might be too difficult with dd with me. Ideally I’d like to have a car or campervan.

We are doing the Netherlands for four on less than that. You could do Duinrell (rides and water park), Efteling (big theme park) and/or another Eurocamp (or Dutch CentreParcs) with decent pools or to act as a base for day trips.

We get the ferry to the Hook of Holland but you could also fly and use public transport, or get the ferry to Calais or Dunkirk, which is much cheaper - it’s often a question of time vs money and where you’re travelling from in the U.K. It’s very easy to get about however you choose and feels nice and relaxed, loads to see, not too hot. Very child-friendly. If you want more ideas, the website Little Clogs Holidays is good.

Another option I discounted on cost grounds (but much cheaper for two) would be Legoland Billund and Lalandia, possibly combined with Copenhagen.

Lurleene · 01/02/2026 22:58

You could go on a nice cruise for that money- plenty to entertain your DD on the ship while you travel between destinations.

MyCatPrefersPeaches · 01/02/2026 22:58

Oh, and another place I’d like to take my six year old is the Playmobil theme park near Nuremberg, which I’m sure could be combined with all manner of lovely places in southern or western Germany as a two-centre holiday!

littleredpiano · 01/02/2026 23:00

I agree with poster above about the Netherlands and doing something Europe side. How about Switzerland, lots of lovely mountain parks and train and cog rails. Your five year would
love.

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 01/02/2026 23:00

I was going to suggest Thailand/ koi samui?

Eftling and then Amsterdam etc could be cool. You could take eurostar and see a few countries by train

Yeah I have been thinking about Thailand. I’ve been quite a few times before, never with dd though. If it was Thailand we probably stay in one place. I’m just not sure the long flight (which would be the same issue with the U.S) would be worth it (cost, jet lag etc) for only 10 days. It’s very tempting though

Switzerland sounds interesting. The alps in general would be amazing. Do you know much about specific areas/things to do there? Thanks :)

This! We are on a cruise for 2 weeks visiting 6 countries, and masses on the ship for kids.

ViolaPlains · 02/02/2026 11:25

Vietnam. Cheap as chips when you’re there, loads to do and very safe.

Where did you go? Are there specific family-friendly cruises? Do you get to spend a few days in different places or is it all just day trips then you get back on the ship every night? Cruise would be a really good option actually. The only thing I’d worry about is sea sickness. I’ve always hated being trapped on boats in case I get sea sick and knowing there’s no escape!

I think you’re going to have to try and minimise the flight cost during peak summer weeks as 10 days is quite long. Eurocamp might be a possibility but doesn’t tick the moving around box. I’d try and avoid Western Europe re costs. Eastern Europe might be cheaper.
