Cold Denby mugs

I feel the need to moan a little about my new mugs.

I was heartily sick of so many mismatched mugs I treated myself to some new Denby mugs in the sale,
I have one remaining Denby curved mug, and it always keeps your drinks really hot.
The new mugs are a straight side design, with a more open top.
I had thought the stoneware kept the drinks hot, but it appears it was the design of the cups.
Im slightly annoyed with myself, for not having realised.

I hope Denby bring back their curved mugs again.

Thats it’s really .

You need to get to a Chinese store or order some Chinese mugs with lids.

I love a crockery moan. Have you tried ebay? The straight ones are good for herbal tea as they are so hot at first. If that is any consolation.

I’ve got the Denby craftsman mugs, they’re great for keeping the drink hot. I was disappointed by the straight-sided Le Creuset mugs. Lovely colours but tea goes cold in them straight away.

I feel your pain. I have some Wedgwood bone china cups which are wide at the top. Tea goes cold very quickly.

Try a Denby outlet shop and see if they’ve got any of your preferred curved mugs in. I did that years after I bought my Denby set. Some are seconds so I spent ages sorting through them to find new ones that are so close to perfect you can’t tell.
I agree the curved mugs are brilliant. Had my morning coffee in one and it sets me up perfectly for the days. Good mugs are important psychologically - I can’t enjoy a drink out of a bad one.

I love these kinds of threads.

I don't like tea or coffee, I do drink a lot of hot chocolate though and I've honestly never considered that some cups or the shape of them affect how hot they keep the drink.

Oh thanks so much for the replies. I haven’t got a Chinese shop nearby, so will look online.
I’ve admired those blue craftsmen for a while.

I will have a look for the curved ones.

I can’t believe that I didn’t realise my azure curved mugs shape was the reason they were so good.

My kitchen cupboards are very cold so, when making a drink, I pour some boiling water into the mug first and leave for 20 or 30 seconds to 'scald' the cup, before pouring the boiling water out and making my drink in the preheated mug. Maybe that might help your drink to stay warm.

This helps to warm a flask up before filling too, and the contents stay hot for longer.

IcyBlueFrost · 01/02/2026 16:44

I do warm them up when I make coffee admittedly, any cup, so I’m doing the same with the new ones for tea too.
Thank you !
