Very hard water area - do I have to have chrome for bathroom fittings?

We have chrome and nickel throughout our house for taps etc. fancy a change in bathroom. We have hard water. Would it be silly to get something other than Chrome? (I don’t went to be wiping taps / shower heads down after every use!) or is there something else I could use that is also hard wearing and won’t look too awful?

As we were having the house replumbed we had a whole house water softener/filter fitted. One year on and it is working well. No messy taps or ruined kettles. We do still swipe the glass shower panels down though. It uses salt as the softener.

Get a water softener.

It's a game changer if you live in a hard water area.
Household appliances like kettles and irons don't die after two years, either.
