Static caravan or room in a pub

Started this thread twice and lost it so will be brief. Me and dh, 2 nights. Normally sleep in a premier inn but this isn't available. We just want somewhere to sleep that's fairly clean and a nice breakfast nearby.

Are you asking for recommendations in a specific area?

twohotwaterbottles · 28/01/2026 12:12

As an enthusiastic caravanner with my kids, I'd go room in a pub or an air b and b. Caravanning is hard work and you need to take stuff

LizzieSiddal · 28/01/2026 12:15

It depends on the caravan and the pub room. Which is the nicest, cleanest and more comfortable?

Two adults with plans for tye day time and mainly just wanting a bed - I’d go for the pub.

Thank you. I've never stayed in a static caravan before so don't know what they are like. I've stayed in a trailer tent but not sure if that's similar or not.

Caravan. You get a little kitchen area and sofa area not just a room

Coffeeishot · 28/01/2026 13:09

We go to a caravan and eat out we take coffee and milk then in the evening you can sit in the livingroom area. They are more spacious that a pub room.

I'd read reviews on tripadvisor. When are you going?

-If the pub room is above the main bar, it might be very noisy. Equally if its fri/sat nights, it might also be noisy.
-If the caravan isn't winter ready, it might be cold. Some have central heating, double glazing etc though. Plus as someone else said, you'd have a kitchen, dining area, lounge etc.

LostThestral · 28/01/2026 13:17

In Scotland definitely the pub room. Warmer & less midges

cestlavielife · 28/01/2026 13:18

In february? Pub
Hot july and you want to be outdoors? Caravan

There are no midges in Dunbar or North Berwick, anymore than there are at Canary Wharf or Broad Street in Liverpool. Bit too lacking in forests and lochs for that.

You don't get many if any midges in Dunbar . Static caravans have central heating.

MiddleAgedDread · 28/01/2026 13:26

static caravans are nothing like a trailer tent, they're fully equipped with everything you need to self cater just on a smaller scale than a house. The downsides can be the poor insulation - they tend to heat up easily with the heating on but it often can't be timed so you have to get up in the morning to a cold van - and poor sound insulation. In summer I'd go for the caravan but in winter I'd pick the pub.
Check the location carefully as there's a few caravan sites in that area which are right on top of the main east coast trainline!

ginasevern · 28/01/2026 13:27

Room in a pub if it's winter. I know you can put the heating on in a caravan, but I think their main attraction is the sort of indoors/outdoors thing.

elliejjtiny · 28/01/2026 14:54

It will be June. We've been to that area twice at that time of year and it's been torrential rain both times so we are expecting similar this year.

So what would you prefer?
Rain pissing on a caravan roof or nice warm pub

Checkenberger · 28/01/2026 20:14

Depends on the pub, some reet rough'uns round Berwick. Also depends on the caravan park i suppose. Haggerston castle then id rather stay at home 🤣

Berwick is very different to North Berwick. Former is in England for a start!

North Berwick mostly very well to do.

Chemenger · 29/01/2026 09:52

I’d rather stay in the pub any day.

elliejjtiny · 29/01/2026 13:58

Thank you. I'm leaning towards the pub to be honest.

There is a caravan park down the road from Drift which is an incredible cafe on the cliffs just outside of north Berwick!
