I just saw a snippet about this on the news but cant find out much more. Trump seemed to imply a few weeks ago he would help the Iranians get rid of the dictators running the country. But then nothing and thousands killed.

Theres an aircraft carrier hanging off the coast of Oman atm, there are drones flying over southern Iran collecting information, refuelling planes have travelled to gulf bases and american bases have been reinforced with patriot and thaad missiles. RAF has also sent some planes, massive cargo drops have been going on for over a week. High chance america will attack Iran within a week or two.

If you have been following the news about Iran I’ve seen estimates of 45’000 civilians killed in about two weeks, medical staff providing help to protesters have been executed. They are also charging people money to collect the bodies of their loved ones and making them pay for the bullets that killed them as well.

I think given the cost of moving all this stuff to the middle east I would be surprised if they didn’t fully intend to topple the regime.

Just for info the US have had a habit of having one of their several carrier groups in the area/region for a heck of a long time now (i.e. years)...goes back to at least the Afghan and Iraq conflicts if not before.

The demands on the US Navy of events such as the Venezeula operation meant that they briefly ended up with groups in slightly unusual positions and there was a hole in their normal carrier dispositions in the Gulf region just as events in Iran kicked off.

As a previous poster has mentioned there are signs of a build up in the region but to some extent the Carrier group is a return to normal running...but a lot of the media aren't really mentioning that.

My crystal ball is as cloudy as anyone elses but given the size of Iran and the attitude of the leadership IMO it's probably going to take a lot more than air power to produce a regime change....

Whatever, next few days might be interesting.

Yeah having a carrier there is normal, but alongside the other build up and the about turn it did it is significant given they have other naval assets in the area. So if there is something coming the americans are probably making sure they are well prepared given they and Israel will probably be attacked by Houthis, Hezbollah and Iraqi militants. The GCC countries are putting it out that they have denied Americans permission to launch attacks from their countries so they clearly think something is happening.

I think given you would need the police and army to turn against the IRCG given there is basically zero chance the americans can or would mount a ground invasion. There have been statements from individual police and army with faces blurred saying they will join. There was at least one soldier executed for refusing to fire on protesters. I’m seeing post after post of tributes to people who have been killed, it’s incredibly sad and horrifying. So many teenagers.

@Bringemout

I'd agree with your view (and it's a view I've also read/heard elsewhere) that this is quite likely very much about defence of US and perhaps Israeli assets in the region from attack from various participants than simply setting things up for a mass/direct attack on Iran.

I think given you would need the police and army to turn against the IRCG given there is basically zero chance the americans can or would mount a ground invasion.

Yep, as well as the IRCG et al Iran is vast, I can't see any US President, even Trump, sanctioning a ground invasion.

Last night ig barely got a mention. Tonight it was the main topic. The news
coming out of Iran is absolutely horfific. Lets hope the end is in sight for this terrible regime.
