Day Discos - do men go too?

I have read that these are a thing now. Sounds like a great idea but I wondered if it is mostly women who attend? Do younger people go?
The things I have seen locally seem to be 80s/90s music so I am thinking it is aimed at a middle aged sort of audience.

Thanks everybody, useful information.
I was wondering if there would be a different tone and that it would be a place to just enjoy dancing rather than the focus being on getting off with someone and/ or getting pissed which is mostly how I remember nights out in my youth.

The one I went to was mainly ladies out having a dance and fun with groups of friends. probably over 150 woman, then these 2 men! Quite attractive guys in their 30s I would say. Having the time of their lives chatting up all the ladies 😄Not sure why more men haven't cottoned onto it yet! 😝

This is exactly why we love it, at least equal m/f if not more men. Everyone dancing, having a good time and enjoying the music

I've been to a couple, and the ratio is no different to clubs I've been in at night. I assume this would change based on the music theme though. I'd say the vibe is less Saturday night pulling, and more dancefloor at a wedding banter. Depending on your nature, maybe avoid the ones listed as '90s rave/90s dance' throwbacks. There was a distinct lack of teeth at that one IYKWIM

AngelsWithSilverWings · 28/01/2026 09:58

We have a local one. They used to do 5 evening events a year and then made two of them afternoon events. Really good fun and an equal mix of men and women attend. Lots of couples. The music is electronic/New Romantic 80's, 90's indie/Brit pop and dance and some select stuff from recent times. No cheesy music allowed.

We see the same crowd at each one and it's really friendly and safe. No bad drunken behaviour. The security staff love it as they say it's the easiest event to manage because everyone is so nice.

IME more men tend to go to House raves than 80's, soul etc..

DeftGoldHedgehog · 28/01/2026 10:21

Yes, definitely. There were lots of men at the one I went to in Soho.

loveyouradvice · 28/01/2026 10:23

They are FAB!!! Lots of men, but yes more women. Seem to be quite a few older couples and also groups of I'm guessing young mums. But definitely anyone over mid 30s and the whole range

Not in my experience. Mind you, they are mostly baldy, fat and great fun. The male equivalent of me

Agree. The soul ones seem to be full of 50+ women and very few men what’s the house ones are far more mixed in both age and sex.

The thread is about discos, not tea dances, although I'm sure they might be good too if that's your type of music/dancing

Some of my friends go and rave about them, the impression they've given me is that they are mainly women

Good for you @Maddy70 but it doesn't mean you found the elixir of youth because you can stay up late. Also being grumpy about others enjoying themselves in a different way is very much the attitude of someone old and tired of life, whatever their actual age.

I've never been good at staying out late even in my 20s. When I first went out to a bar aged 16 I complained there was nowhere to sit down. I only did stay out late because I like dancing and going out but I've always preferred to be in bed at a civilised hour and have a good sleep. My friends and I prefer daytime drinking and dancing and going to bed at a normal time now, and not wasting the next day feeling like crap.

UnusualOtter · 28/01/2026 10:28

I went to this one Home - AATM Club in London, about equal mix of men and women I would say.

Davros · 28/01/2026 10:42

Just putting this here. As many men as women all having a good time.

I'm really not grumpy about what others do. I just find it baffling that adults can't stay up later. Surely the atmosphere isn't the same early on? Happy for you early birds if it is! It's just something I can't get my head around

We can do both. I love day raves (the ones I do are usually 5-10/11) though outdoor events are earlier.

I also have very late nights when it’s the right time - last year at a house weekender we were walking back to our room as the sun came up just before 6am.

The regular early events I go to have a fantastic atmosphere and are always full to bursting often with a queue outside wanting to get in.

Dont knock it til you’ve tried it

Clubs used to be quiet early doors hence the difference in atmosphere compared with later on.

I went to the day club at 4pm, it had started at 3pm and was already full and in full swing so there was definitely no problem with atmosphere.

frozendaisy · 28/01/2026 15:24

Yep. H and his uni mates met up for a birthday and went together as a group

gototogo · 28/01/2026 15:27

@Maddy70for those of us who don’t live in cities they are brilliant, means we don’t have to toss for who is driving because we can take the bus. We are out most weekends so definitely not over the hill but I generally go out by 7ish these days, I hate Saturday evening tv!

gototogo · 28/01/2026 15:29

And you should see the atmosphere at our local pub on birthday weekend (their birthday, by 4pm it’s packed to the hilt with people dancing on tables to a live band, people love afternoon fun

Why are you assuming that going out in the day means you can't stay up late? Having day events increases the choices for everyone and being an early to bed bird isn't some kind of character flaw any more than being up with the larks makes one superior to stay in beds.

Do you find in day to day life you struggle with people having different views? You can't really be baffled can you ?

HeartyBlueRobin · 28/01/2026 16:13

I've been to a few. They're great fun with a mix of younger people (30ish) and middle aged++. A few had single men too.

PuppyMonkey · 27/01/2026 22:32

Ha, I wish they’d play much more 70s and 80s, the 00s bit is boring. But I am nearly 60. They should do breakaway versions where some are solely old school and some are later stuff and 00s.

Haha! Well, I guess we are different generations! Day Fever never has 2000s music! Perhaps ‘Mr Brightside’ at a push!
