Older primary. Single parent. Picked DC up from school, hobby. Home by 5. Theyve watched tv, played on tablets, just finished dinner. They are becoming very reliant on screens. I will sort the kitchen out and have a cuppa but they will almost certainly have some shite on the tv. I dont really watch tv though so not as if i can put something else on. I am low on enegry it has to be said but dont want these habits to set in.

So what are you doing after dinner? They dont get homework

Other things we do: board games, baking, playing piano, reading, going for an after dinner walk.

I know what you mean, I hate the idea that evening = television automatically. I don't let mine watch TV unless it's a family show we all watch together - like bake off, or we just watched traitors

I work ft and live with dh. DC2 is still in lower primary years.

Mon - drama club at school 3.30 to 4.30. Home at 4.45. Relax until dinner at 5.30. Read and practice maths and spellings with mum for about 45mins. Board game or Screen time or go for a bike ride if sunny weather. Bath. Bed at 8pm.

Tues - football at school 3.30 to 4.30. Home 4.45. Rest of evening same as Monday.

Weds - home 3.45pm, screen time and playtime while I finish work then early dinner at 5pm and then we go to Beavers. Afterwards usually just relax and go to bed.

Thurs - home 3.45pm, screen time and playtime til 5pm, then some homework/reading, then swimming 6.15pm home at 7.30 and try and get him to calm down have story and bed.

Fri - home 3.45pm, screen time and playing independently til 5.15pm then dinner, martial arts club from 6pm to 7.15 then home, reading and bed.

Basically yes lots of screen time! Not ideal but hard to avoid when you have work to finish.

Its a good point about bike rides/walks in better weather, we are a very outdoors family and i struggle in the dark wet evenings.

Three primary aged children and most evenings involve clubs, sometimes two or three of them. So it’s really an endless juggle with lots of driving.

We dont do clubs any more. It was just too much. They do swimming lessons one night dads one night. I have a later finish one night
