No injury - one side only . 2 week history

Been given a GP appt for the 14th Feb. Would you wait or push for earlier?

Not to alarm you but my son had Ewings Sarcoma 15 years ago and pain woke him at night. A paediatrician said to me pain that wakes you at night should never be ignored! Speedy treatment saved his life. It's a 1 in a million chance ( literally!) so it's highly unlikely but I would push for an earlier appt and Xray. Hope I have not alarmed you! It's extremely rare as I said.

Sorry to hijack your post a bit but I’m just placemarking myself as DS regularly wakes up in the night with what I think is growing pains in his legs, but it’s happening quite regularly and wake him from sleep and he’s in hysterics with pain.

DD gets this in the back of her knee. She’s seen the GP who thinks it is just growing pains. I was worried as my friends daughter started like this with leukemia but the GP said it would be a lot more consistent.

DD will go months with nothing then a spate of it hurting once a week, often after PE at school.

I have started keeping a log of it.

I would want her seen earlier. Hip pain can be a sign of an infection which may need antibiotics. I’m a nurse and often see children with bone infections. How old is she and is she having temperatures?

one sided without obvious injury needs to be investigated asap
also look up symptoms of osteomyelitis to see if it fits.
pain at night points to inflammation
do give him painkillers

Sorry for delay in replying Rippeditoff..
As regards to other symptoms, he lost some weight and did say he felt a little unwell which of course was unremarkable. My GP acted immediately, getting XRays and doing bloods and as X ray was inconclusive, sent him for MRI. There was suggestions of osteomyelitis ( common enough, serious but v treatable with antibiotics) So cancer highly unlikely but while I was in the Childrens Hospital, I met a number of parents whose doctors told them their children had " growing pains" or whose children had a fracture following a simple activity such as coming down a slide and which hadn't been fully investigated and turned out to be malignant.I'm very cautious.. Sarcoma in children tend to be in the long bones, in teenage years and slightly more common in boys. My son was in that group but I came across younger boys and girls during that time. A highly unlikely diagnosis but one that has so much a better outcome via early diagnosis. Best of Luck and prayers to you🙏🙏
