Hi

My son has high functioning AuDhD. He also has two minor physical handicaps. Due to complicated issues I won't go into here, unless anyone wants to know, he was only ever supported for the autism, and has never been on any ADHD medication. Despite the diagnosis in childhood, he's been very reluctant to pursue treatment for ADHD as i think he is fed up of being a shopping list of ailments.

A year ago he got a job he really loved, in a competitive industry. He's just been put on a PIP and I read online that these are often a way of managing people out of the company. I'm very worried he will get fired. He has a flat with rent to pay. He did not disclose to his employers that he is autistic. He probably should have, but again, I think he just wanted to start adult life without so many labels. And he probably worried he'd not have been given the job if he had.

I have ADHD myself and wasn't diagnosed until I was 60. My own twenties were utter chaos - despite having a good degree, I just blundered through endless low paid, low-skilled part time jobs, and sofa-surfed, utterly bewildered as to why I couldn't seem to grow up and manage life like everyone else seemed to. I so don't want this for him. I've never even tried to hold down a 9-5 office job so I don't really know how to help him develop the skills he needs, if he wants to continue in this work.

Please can anyone recommend any support, training or books about ADHD in the workplace - especially if targeted at young adults/first jobs that he or I could read to help him get through this and not end up sacked? He's London-based.

Thank you.
