Tas (on borough high street)

Strollingby · 25/01/2026 13:13

Tas Turkish restaurant sprang to mind, but I am not sure they are open Sunday if you need it for today.

Dreamingpeanuts · 25/01/2026 13:14

You’ve also obvs got the whole of borough market but I assume you want somewhere low key

runrunrun2026 · 25/01/2026 13:16

You’re very close to Bermondsey street - lots of options there. Casse croute is fab. Flour and grape is pretty nice.

Eggybreadwithnuts · 25/01/2026 15:01

It will be a Friday night, not the market.
Turkish a maybe
Bermonsy French one maybe

Anymore??? Happy to do a chain like Cotes

I should have said - flour and grape is pasta, really tasty; similar concept as padella if you’ve been but a more relaxed environment so you could definitely spend a couple of hours.

Casse croute is one of my favourite places to go although the menu is small (3 of each course) and they change regularly - if you are fussy it may not work so well.

I think there might be a Cote up on the river by Hayes Galleria but I’d save that for when you don’t have such great alternatives. There is also an Ivy Cafe up by Tower Bridge but I personally think the food is a little underwhelming. There’s a Gaucho in More Place and further down the river (other side of Tower Bridge) you have a nice Chop House and a really fancy place called Pont de la Tour which is lovely but probably a bit posh for a night out with a mate.

oh - on Bermondsey st you also have Pizarro / Jose and a new one called Lolo they’ve just opened (all owners led by the same people). Pizarro is quite expensive (but very nice!) Jose is tapas; Lolo is a sit down restaurant but less expensive than Pizarro I haven’t tried it yet but I would imagine it’s very good.

Budget?

applebees (fish) in the market is nice.
I also like Lupin which is on Union Street

good pub food at the roebuck and I’ve seen loads of people eating at the Blue Eyed Maid but I’ve not been.

favours of Naples which is south of the tube is also always busy but I’ve not been.

simply Indian and Est India are both nice.

kin&deum (over near Bermondsey street) is the best Thai in the area and you NEED to book if you want to go.

If you want Asian fusion Champor Champor is bonkers and fun.

there is also a flat iron (steak frites) up in Tooley Street and they take a small number of bookings to avoid the queue situation.

tavolino at more london is reluable italian and usually has a nice view but you would need to specify an upstairs table at the moment as there is building work going on.

PinterandPirandello · 25/01/2026 17:51

Brindisa, Barrafina both great for Spanish tapas. Kin and Deum and Kola for Thai, Mallow for vegetarian, Hawksmoor for steaks and another steak place called Blue (something), loads of restaurants on Bermondsey St. Pyro - Greek has had great reviews. New spoons at London Bridge 😆

AgnesMcDoo · 25/01/2026 17:53

Black and Blue. Reasonably priced for London and just a minutes walk from the tube

CloudPop · 25/01/2026 17:54

Casa do Frango - fab Portuguese restaurant

Icecoldfeet20 · 25/01/2026 17:57

flat iron is alright and well priced for that area of London

abathofmilkwithladydi · 25/01/2026 17:57

Borough Bistro! French tapas and the best French martinis ever.

TheatreTheatre · 25/01/2026 17:57

Casa Do Frango , specialising in Portuguese grilled chicken but with a range of interesting sides )and other dishes)

This is above the market. Food to die for:

(Also wondrously relaxed, friendly, casual.)

OMA | restaurant london

a restaurant inspired by the greek isles. located above AGORA.

Furlane · 25/01/2026 18:05

What do you like? How much do you want to spend? There’s probably about 200 restaurants in that vicinity catering for any cuisine imaginable!!

Eggybreadwithnuts · 25/01/2026 18:54

£50-60 per head
Any cuisine not Indian though. Walking distance from tube or along high street.
Is St Katherine Dock near as there is a Cotes there

It's further away than Bermondsey St and across the river

YellowStockings · 25/01/2026 19:08

I can't believe no one has mentioned Seoul Toyko - incredibly yummy Korean food

TheFlis · 25/01/2026 19:16

The nearest Cote is Hay’s Galleria which someone already mentioned. That’s walking distance but seems a shame to go to a chain like that when there are so many more interesting options nearby.

Whyherewego · 25/01/2026 19:17

I like Brindisa. It's great for casual meets as it's tapas and v tasty food

Londonmummy66 · 25/01/2026 19:33

Vivat Bacchus - amazing cheese and wine and also south african menus and braai very close to London Bridge

CuriousKangaroo · 25/01/2026 19:38

Some great recommendations on here. Not sure why you are so fixed on Cote? It’s fine, but not actually that good. I’d pick every recommendation on the list so far, over Cote. And if I was going to a chain, Casa de Frango is very good and closer to where you want to meet.

TheLette · 25/01/2026 20:29

Not Tas or Cote - Borough Market is one of the most foody places in London and these two places, whilst fine, are a waste of going to that area.

Where you should consider: Kin and Deum, Berenjak, Arabica and Bancone. Mallow is also amazing if you don't mind vegan food (I'm not a vegan but eat mostly veggie food). I've heard good things about Oma but not been personally. Slightly further afield is Bala Baya which is very good.

NorWouldTilly · 25/01/2026 21:14

Oma has one Michelin star. (And I’d eat there every day if I could.) There’s no comparison with a mediocre chain restaurant.
