Downsizing when adukt DC live away.

My house is too big.

My DC live 100s of miles away. If they're to visit I need to be able to put them (and any future DGC) up.

I know there will be ideas around booking them into a hotel/all going away together, but that's not like coming "home".

What do others do?

I worry you are clinging to an idea of "home" that might not be meaningful to them.

We've been welcome to stay over at my parents' house for at least 2 decades now, but I don't think we've ever done it. We're visitors, even I'm not coming home, let alone my children and husband. It's not a bad thing, it's just a function of us growing up and having our own home now. Don't compromise your choice of home for the sake of a couple of extra bedrooms you don't otherwise need.

What might make sense is one spare room that functions as an office, craft room or whatever else you actually need and want, which has a Murphy bed or similar so it can convert into a guest room if needed. Invest a couple of thousand in some clever kit rather than £20-£40k on rooms you don't need that might only be used once in a blue moon.
