Is this salmon still good to eat?

Was going to make salmon for dinner yesterday (use by date today) but something about it caught my eye. When I had a closer look there are bubbles in the liquid throughout the packaging, making it look a bit foamy almost.

We eat a fair bit of Salmon and I don't think I've seen that before. The fish itself also perhaps doesn't look the freshest. Has anyone seen this before?

Probably wouldn't give it a second look normally but one DC is just out of hospital and a bit delicate. I did a quick Google Lens search on the attached image but no obvious matches so I'm probably just mad!

Is this salmon still good to eat?

The flesh looks ‘ripped’ on that photo, as if it’s deteriorating, so no I’d Chuck it.

Thanks @PersephoneParlormaid - you're right - I think that's what actually made me look twice, then I spotted the bubbles. Overall it just doesn't look in great shape!

OP, where food is concerned, if in doubt, chuck it out - it’s simply not worth risking food poisoning. Obviously, things don’t turn to ashes at midnight on their sell-by date - you do need to be sensible - but if you are suspicious of fish or chicken, better safe than sorry.

Yes I definitely err on the side of caution when there is reason to doubt it (e.g. meat/fish left out by mistake). I just wanted to make sure the doubts were reasonable here and someone wouldn't come along and say "those bubbles/texture are perfectly normal - they're due to X".

Salmon is usually vacuum packed so I’d be cautious if I saw bubbles.
Health before wealth - chuck it, especially fish.
Fish and chicken are always given much more scrutiny than other meats, really nasty if it goes wrong.

Open up the packet and see how it smells. You will soon find out if it is ok to eat if it smells off.

When it comes to fish you can’t be too careful, no one likes waste but I’d rather not take the chance of a nasty bout of food poisoning just for the sake of losing a few quid.
