A small one for my kitchen windowsill! I have artifical plants but at 28 (turning in 3 weeks) I have no real ones and want to!

But I want one low maintenance I have 2 young kids (our windowsill is out of reach and eldest is 4 so if I tell him to be careful of spikes he would)

I read cacti are good! But just wanted some opinions?

And wheres best tonget some? I seen in b and q they had some

Educate me on house plants please haha!

Yeah they’re lovely and easy to keep. My son is now 13 and got really into them - now has lots of his own on his windowsill. I just imagine they’re in the desert and so only give mine occasional water.
garden centres will have lots of choice, but somewhere like B&Q likely to be cheaper. Maybe start there and see how you get on? Don’t forget to buy a saucer or pot without holes so when you do water them, the water has somewhere to drain out into without making a mess!

Thank you!

Yes I have a lovely pot waiting for it! And it's closed at the bottom x

A cactus or succulent is a good starting point, some can go months without watering. Mother in laws tongue and peace lilies are also easy to keep alive. I have 50-60 plants in my house.

They are a doddle!

Beautiful, interesting little beings to look at, they grow slowly and are easy to propagate. And obviously very forgiving if you forget to water them 😉

Get a couple or three and enjoy, OP!

I’ve had the same cactus on my kitchen windowsill for over 20 years now. She’s the only plant I’ve ever kept alive longer than a few months due to her ridiculously low maintenance level. She grows little pink flowers every now and again. I often forget to water her for months but she’s never held it against me.

Succulents are very easy as well. Dh collects them.

I have a very poor reputation for keeping house plants alive (actually managed to kill a bamboo plant!) - However, I was gifted five cactuses and they are all still alive six years later. I keep them on a window (as I think they need bright light) and ignore them most of the time - just watering them sporadically. Amazingly they look really good!
