I think im shifting into middle age im 39 its not a bad thing.
So for a few weeks its like a shift in me with my clothes, im a legging baggy top hoodie type have been for years.
But ive now gone into lose fitting jeans and nice cotton lose tops.
Its a casual but smart look and comfy.
But something id never be into.
Ive been looking at my clothes today with slight cringe of what i was wearing.
I also have a brully something ive never bothered with.
Little things if you know what i mean its all good.

What little things have you changed with.

DP and I seem to say 'Shall we have a nice cup of tea?' quite a lot. In fact tea consumption overall has risen.

My farts waking me up.

I found my 30s a tricky decade. My daughter was young and money was a bit tight. I also didn't really know what to wear. Stay young or go old. However, I eased into middle age rather well and I enjoyed my 40s. I'm now 55 and wear lots of jumpers and wear my glasses on a lanyard. Its ace!

PedanticPrincess · 22/01/2026 17:22

Yes but what cloths have you changed to??

Looking forward to easing into middle age and finding some kind of style again. My children are still young (oldest 3, youngest 4 months) so I’m overweight, exhausted, on maternity leave so money is tight, and I’m also breastfeeding so clothes are just ugly and practical. If I have a second to look in the mirror I already cringe, so I hope in 4-5 years time when the children are school age and I’m in my early 40s easing into middle age, that I can rediscover or find a new style and burn these frumpy clothes! Honestly the thought of that time coming helps me through this drudgery. Enjoy it I say, OP!

I turned 50 last year and feel like I'm rapidly evolving into a completely different person, but at the same time returning to who I was when I was much younger.

Honestly I'm really enjoying it, if a bit weirded out!

I'm 48 and I think I'm going a bit 'Sod it, I don't care anymore' and going a bit more back to my alternative youth.

I bought a pair of tartan bondage trousers last week and honestly they look really good on! But more for parties than everyday wear.

This. I turned Fifty at the end of 2024 (the literal end) and I want to pierce my nose again, where bohemian dresses (just found a boho shop on the other end of town) with my DMs. DH asked if I’m sure about the nose piercing the only thing I didn’t like is the pain and the fact it got infected last time. But I’m older (and wiser🤷🏾‍♀️) now. So…..

I'm 48.

I have a selection of knee supports to wear when I exercise.
I use a special 'colour depositing' shampoo to disguise my grey hairs.
I stopped wearing pretty bras with band/cup sizes that never really fit. I now wear one type of bra in size XS. Usually with a thermal vest over the top!
I own a book on Face Yoga.
I take four different supplements every day (magnesium, collagen, hormone support, vitamin D, iron) - wait, that's five!
I now wear glasses for reading AND hearing aids for mid-range hearing loss.

But!! I have loved my 40s. I'm back at work after being a SAHM for part of my 30s. I started exercising during lockdown so am in pretty good shape. My kids are teens and really fun to spend time with. I'm excited for my 50s!

I'm trying to find my 'older woman' groove - lots of colour and pattern, bit boho, not at all chic or fashionable, and very happy with it. Also accepting the coming of more weight - I keep it sort of in check with the gym but dieting is too miserable, I'd rather be a bit fatter and have cake 😄

I gave up on underwired bras during Covid and realised I never really needed them anyway, as I don't have much in the way of boobs. I am trying to get some more colourful/funky underwear as well though, although the nice stuff isn't cheap.

HarvestMouseandGoldenCups · 23/01/2026 09:52

I think that’s possibly just fashion though… loose jeans and simple tops are what’s in style. Seems like you just want to look nice and not scruffy.

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 23/01/2026 11:44

I practically lived in hipster bootcut jeans in the early 2000s. Since around 2023 I've been getting fed up of anything trouser-y and I slowly began to replace all of my trousers, be they jeans or combats, with dresses. A nice midi/maxi dress with tights or leggings is actually rather more comfortable and much less effort for me. I've also ditched bras as I have virtually no boobage. I'm 38.
