Gift for boss?

I've worked for my boss for 4 years now but they are in a different country so ive only met them in person 3 times but they are coming again and i feel to get them a small present. Ive seen others getting their bosses drinks but they are in the same country. Is it strange to get something? We get on really well!

It’s weird to get your boss a present. Unless it’s a culture that it’s normal??

That's what im wondering, is it weird

A perspective from another country: If you read Ask A Manager (US based, plenty of replies from elsewhere) she always says that gifts should flow down and not up. So, a boss can give the people she manages presents but they shouldn’t feel they have to give her anything.

I think a token gift based on your country might be nice, tea bags and a packet of British biscuits for example.
I have given and received gifts both as a boss and to my boss but I would keep them small and socially neutral.

But don’t feel you have to, you don’t.

I agree. Small token gifts are something else, and can be appropriate, if you want to. Like buying the boss a drink, as in the OP’s example.
