Lucy Letby not charged with further crimes - what does this say about her current convictions

So no more charges for Lucy Letby currently.

I can't say I am surprised as the tactics the CPS used the first time to secure convictions wont wash. There have been too many questions about the 'expert' evidence in the first trial and in my opinion the CPS don't want to take the risk of trying again with a more possibly more aware jury.

The police seem to be not too happy and probably thought they had similar evidence as they had initially so were taken aback by the CPS decision. They have had to approach parents to say that their children dies either through medical incompetence or through natural causes. The poor parents will now feel distraught and confused being lef up the garden path and the police maybe telling them Lucy was guilty.

I wonder if this is paving the way for a retrial?

I see the BBC reported that the parents of Baby A do not want his inquest to be reopened.

Yes. Other sources say that.

I heard a suggestion a while back from someone who knows more than I do about the legal system that what might happen is a retrial but the crown doesn’t offer any evidence so she is found not guilty immediately.

If anyone who knows these things has an opinion about how plausible or not that is I would be interested to hear.

Sorry I read your post wrong, I thought you were asking if they don't offer evidence is she found not guilty, but I see now that you're asking how plausible it is that they might do that for a retrial.

Evans pocketed well over £50,000 for being an expert witness. Of course he, and those who paid him, wanted a result!

Being an expert witness is an extremely lucrative gig.

In 2023 alone he was paid £52,000.

Edited

This actually seems low for the amount of work he did (whatever anyone might think about the quality of that work).

I didn't think the documentary even aired until 9p.m and you're all talking about a sudden retrial or even letting her straight out 😆well hope she's your neighbour then, just keep her away from your kids. You are all so so unbelievably wrong.

Didn’t watch it. Don’t intend to.

I know it will take a while to get her to the Court of Appeal but things are looking good.

Well Peter Hitchens is strongly advising people not to watch it which tells me everything I need to know about how bad it makes her look.

Hitchens enjoys a bit of a rant, doesn't he!

Firefly1987 · 04/02/2026 21:04

I agree with him that the police never should've shown footage from inside her parents house-that's one of the worst days of their life being played out to millions and they aren't guilty of anything. It's wrong and a huge invasion of privacy which I don't see the need for. And that's one of many reasons why I hate the police. Lucy is still guilty though.

If only you paid as much attention to everything else Hitchens says about this absolute travesty of justice.

Before I watched it I assumed the same as you but it actually doesn’t make her look bad. However it makes the police look fairly unkind and unbelievably stupid.

Well I agree with 80% of that! I think bringing her elderly parents into it was really inexcusable. It's not good to let the police abuse their power like this. It must influence their culture and attract bullies into the force.

I thought that. It highlights how chaotic their investigation is and how incompetent they are.

Saying that she must be lying because she is unsure about the minute details of an incident that happened two years before is ridiculous. I'd have to pause to think if you asked me what I ate for lunch today.

And, yes, I am aware that your memory might be better for traumatic incidents, but not to the point where you remember exact details years later. I was present when a resident under my care was found deceased. I remember finding him, I remember I was there because he was on my rota, I can't remember what I was doing/where I was before entering his room, what time I entered his room, what time I called 999, where the other staff were before I buzzed for help...

I think your memory can also be far far worse for traumatic events.

When I went through a traumatic time at work, I stopped taking in people's names. You could be someone I'd sat with for hours the day before, someone whose welfare I cared deeply about, and I wouldn't know your name without checking my notes, if I hadn't met you before that year. It was deeply weird. I am sure it would have done me great harm in a police interrogation. It was as if my mind just said, too many people. Make it stop.

Saw this today

https://vm.tiktok.com/ZNRyRPgkq/

with a layman’s explanation concerning the incubation of baby K and the tube size etc

thought I’d share it, it also has a detailed account of the nurseries, plan and timings - I can’t verify if its accurate though

obv the algorithm has been picked up
