Protecting mental health while looking for work

I need a new job (not unemployed) but I’m struggling to get started even looking. I’ve heard so many horror stories recently, job hunting sounds like an absolute shambles at the moment from what I’ve heard, especially with all the ghost jobs. How can I stop myself getting upset or angry? It’s like I’m frozen, I can’t even bring myself to look as I’ve done a lot to protect myself from people who’ve let me down in the past, I’m not a competitive person. I know nobody else can do it for me but it from what I’ve read it sounds like the process is worse than ever before.

Please don’t add more horror stories, I just want to know how to push myself to get things moving.

I’m not really looking for job hunting advice, just how to deal with it all.

You have to just do it 🤷‍♂️

And stop listening to other's experiences because yours might be nothing like theirs.

Just go in with low expectations and use your common sense. You probably will have to do lots of applications, and don’t take any rejections / no response to heart. It’s nothing personal. It’s not ‘people letting you down’; it’s just a number game. It doesn’t mean you’re not a good applicant, just that it’s competitive and half the time they have an internal candidate anyway who gets it.

This, you need to take emotion out of it really because it’s not personal, don’t let it become more than it is.
