DS is in year 7 and is getting 40 outta 50 in tests. Would he be in middle set? He’s my only son without SEN so I’m not sure as my other 2 are in special schools.

There's not really a universal mark. It will depend how difficult the tests are and how well other children in his year are doing. You would need to wait and see what the school say. You could also try to find out a bit more from DS about the range of marks in his class, but he won't necessarily know how most did.

Edited to say: it sounds like a good score, so well done to him.

You can't tell. Different sets may have different tests.

No way to know from the test scores. Different sets would have different tests, unless this is a particular test given to determine their set. Even then it is unlikely that all children will be given the same test as their past marks will play a part too.

Well, surely it depends... They might have the highest marks in the year...or the lowest.

And it won't be based on a single test anyway.

Different sets could be given different tests though. Unless or until the teacher expesses any concerns, just assume he is doing fine.

You can’t tell.

usually the end of year exams are the same for all students so those marks can be compared.

some schools do exams half way through the year that are the same but not as many.

smaller tests will usually be different for each group and the teacher will write and mark them.
