One of the DC has surgery next week to remove extra teeth from his inner gum (I mean closer to the palate rather than on the outer side of his existing teeth)
They are having a GA as the bone will need to be shaved.
Any tips for recovery? What foods are best to eat? how long recovery might be according to your experiences? (I will of course ask the surgeon/nurse on the day but just want to be prepared beforehand)

Soup with no bits and nothing acidic like lemon juice. Warm but not too hot. Creamy for extra calories.
Poor kid.

My grandson had similar surgery 2 weeks before Christmas. I wasn't there for all of his recovery but I know he felt very sorry for himself and not much like eating at all for the first couple of days. I also had something similar (lots of digging around but no GA required) last September.

Tepid soft food for the first few days.
Soft food for the next week or so - nothing scratchy, nothing spicy or too acidic and nothing that will necessitate sucking for any reason. So nothing that will stick to the palate and nothing with a straw. No fizzy drinks. The softer and wetter the better when it comes to food. Think sloppy mince and soup. Bread can stick to the palate and toast is scratchy.
Cereals, wet weetabix not rice crispies, however soggy they are because they have little bits which could get stuck in the wound. Fairly liquid porridge should be OK. Likewise mashed potato not rice, but ensure its not too claggy.

My grandson requested that I make him a fish pie (mashed potato not pastry) but he couldn't eat it at the beginning and I had to freeze it.

Jelly, custard, mousse all good. Maybe not the best nutritionally but a couple of days of nursery food should be OK unless they have complex nutritional needs.

Thank you both, think I will make and freeze some soups today in advance.
We were hoping the teeth would just come out on their own but they’re staying put hence the need for the surgery.

I had mouth surgery last year twice as I was having implants.

Milkshakes were good. The dentist recommend blending a banana with milk and some honey - he said the honey would help healing too so I bought a good honey rather than a more processed one. I then started adding spinach and avocado and protein powder to make it more of a nutritious meal but you may not need to do that.

The dentist told me to sieve any soups so there were not little bits that could get stuck.

I was basically a liquid diet of smoothies/milkshakes and soups for about ten days. All tepid.

I added in ice cream and smooth yoghurts after about a week.
