Tips for first kids party

thetallfairy · 16/01/2026 15:17

Well let's just start by saying I had only a few days to plan this as our original venue had to close unexpectedly

I have booked a bouncy castle and a magician

2.30 to 4.30pm

Pizza cake and chick nuggets

Juice to drink

There are 14 kids
Three adults

It is in my local hall

I have party bags and plates
Paper cups and tissue

My fear is that someone will fall over
I know I sound ridiculous but I am panicking so bad

I have closed off any dangerous areas so it is the main hall and the toilets

Any tips

What am I forgetting

Augggghhhh sorry

Had the week from hell so I'm just feeling ultra shit about it all

Have you got a portable speaker and some music you can play for ambience?

DillyDallyingAllDay · 16/01/2026 15:18

Sounds like you’ve got everything. Maybe some wipes?

WeeAgnes · 16/01/2026 15:22

Don't forget candles and lighter/matches for the cake.
Plus napkins to wrap cut up cake in.

How old are the kids?

WeeAgnes · 16/01/2026 15:25

Oh and black bin bags.
For presents* and clearing up the rubbish at the end.

Don't bin the wrong bag at the end of the day 😉

Have fun.

*You can set up a presents table where people can leave their gifts when they arrive.

8-9 year olds

Totally forgot to get matches

Thank you !!!!

8-9 year olds I’d bring some other activities or games in case they get bored of the bouncy castle and magician, or not all can go on it at once as there’s 14 of them. For food we always add fruit like strawberries and melon, and also put out water to drink. And cans and cake for the adults.

Your magician is 45 mins
Food will be about 30 mins
5 mins at the end to say goodbye and give out party bags
That's 1 hour 20
That appears to leave about 40 minutes - obviously they will just play on the bouncy castle for a bit but that sounds too long! I'd have a few party games too, or have something they can do with the footballs but it might get wild!

My oldest is 5 so I’m not sure about 8-9 year olds but even at 5 I’d say crayons are a bit too young. Maybe a craft activity with something they can make, and nice felt tips to colour it in. A Lego corner could work too.

thetallfairy · 16/01/2026 15:50

Ok yes true

I just have not got time to get some felt tip markers

May ask a friend to grab some

Thank you

I am pretty clueless I must say !!!!

Connect 4 is a good "busy" game to have out or something similar

How do you cut the cake? We had forgotten a knife and the hall's kitchen had only locked cupboards so DH had to race back home.

Toilets - you have to find a way that they can be used but not by more than one boy at the same time. You need an adult to keep on overview.

Kitchen roll

Kitchen roll

Runs to grab a small knife and will hide it high up in hall (obvs)

Toilets oh my goodness yes
Another adult?

Maybe my friends son?

Hmm ok

Super helpful 🥳🥳🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

@thetallfairy DH then walked from the high street's car park (the hall didn't have parking) through a busy high street with a massive knife in a tote bag.

It's 14 years ago and one friend still brings it up!

Knife to cut it too

WhereIsMyLight · 16/01/2026 17:09

My kid is the kid that always injured themselves when they go to a party! I bought some ice packs and kid plasters… just in case any were like my kid. Nobody ended up needing them at our last party.

If you can’t grab some ice packs, there’s usually a crispy old ice block in the freezer of the hall, just shove a napkin over it and the kid will be fine.

Great tip

Ice packs are magic in these scenarios
