How much are people paying? I remember getting 20p for my first tooth!

OP posts:
Plinketyplonks · 16/01/2026 14:35

£1

AnneLovesGilbert · 16/01/2026 14:36

£2 for first one, £1 for the rest.

Poppins2016 · 16/01/2026 14:38

Also £1

Relieved to see this, as I know people who give £5 notes, but I feel that's too much (besides, how on earth does the poor fairy carry huge notes)?!

DD gets £1 a tooth which seems to be pretty standard among her friends. I used to get 20p too but hey, inflation!

ShetlandishMum · 16/01/2026 14:38

A book. Tooth fairy brings a book.

Newyearsameme26 · 16/01/2026 14:39

£2. But wait until they don't tell you they've lost a tooth to test if the tooth fairy is real!

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 16/01/2026 14:39

£1

ThatsRoughBuddy · 16/01/2026 14:54

£2 coin , because its well fancier than a £1 coin!

ThatFairy · 16/01/2026 15:05

I don't remember being visited by the tooth fairy. I would say £5 with all the inflation

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 16/01/2026 15:06

£5 for the first and £1 for the rest.

TumbledTussocks · 16/01/2026 17:33

shiny gold £1 per tooth or a €1 when you’re on hols

BendingSpoons · 16/01/2026 17:55

£1. I was slightly horrified to read a news article - the child had lost multiple teeth at once (can't remember why but they were ok) and the mum was saying how expensive it was as she had to give £10 per tooth!

GKG1 · 16/01/2026 17:58

We did £5 for the first and it’s £1 for the rest.

DoggieNamechange · 16/01/2026 18:08

£2. But I live up North and on all Mumsnet threads they ask where you live whenever you post about money as if we're all total paupers so just assume it's £10 for the SE and a lump of coal for everyone else

caringcarer · 16/01/2026 21:28

Put a £1 coin in a glass of cola and it will become so shiny. Use that.

firstofallimadelight · 16/01/2026 21:47

We do £2 as I got £1 in the 80’s so seemed unfair to give kids the same

CompleteMere · 16/01/2026 21:49

£2 and a note in the teeniest tiniest writing I can manage

Plankton89 · 16/01/2026 21:53

£1, unless exceptional circumstances apply. One child had to have a tooth removed under gas sedation - an extra tooth stuck in her gum. She got a fiver for that. Same when the younger one got a baby tooth knocked out by another child accidentally head-butting her.

CarrierbagsAndPJs · 16/01/2026 21:56

I always said the tooth fairy had a bag of coins and doesn’t understand human currency. Be grateful it isnt a euro….

MopAndBucketLady · 16/01/2026 21:59

£5 1st one £2 after.
I always make sure we have a couple of £2 coins in the jar as we never have change and often they've lost 2 teeth in a matter of days

Haha yes we had to do this once on holiday!

CharlotteFlax · 16/01/2026 22:05

The maximum you can give is £2 for the first one and £1 for the rest.

Do not ruin it for the rest of us and start giving out paper money.

An IOU is acceptable from the tooth fairy in coin shortage situations.

bridezillaincoming · 16/01/2026 22:28

£1 or £2 depends what I find first 🧚‍♀️
