Travel Insurance for Atlas Mountains

Eggybreadwithnuts · 16/01/2026 12:57

DS is doing a guided climb of Atlas Mountains in Morocco.

Anyone recommend insurance companies? Have used Trailfinders previously as they cover everything but £70 single trip. Looking for any others people have used?

I just used the basic insurance that comes with my bank account... sorry that isn't very helpful!

Have you looked at the BMC (British mountaineering council) travel insurance? It always used to be a good deal, I don't know how it compares now.

Basic insurance is unlikely to cover trekking at altitude: most non-specialised insurers will only cover up to 2500m max altitude, and he will be above that in the Atlas.

£70 sounds like a pretty good deal to me for specialist insurance.

Worth just double checking before you pay the extra. Mine covered up to 5000m as standard and Atlas aren't that high.

Hope he has a wonderful time OP. The landscape really is incredible.

Atlas is 4,500. Standard insurance you have to add this onto it and it comes in.around £80 so Trailfinders one is best

How does it compare with BMC?

I used to do a lot of hill/mountain walking and always got my travel insurance through them. Those activities are not added extras with BMC insurance !

UPDATE
Just rang Trailfinders...its £35 for a single trip with mountain trekking cover up to 7000m.

I forgot no winter sports cover needed on this trip which usually takes it to around £70 ... but this cover at £35 covers trekking👍
