Kitchen knives

Decided to bite the bullet and treat myself to some new kitchen knives.

Have been to a couple of actual shops, but they don't seem to have much of a choice of sets that come in a freestanding rack.

I quite fancy the set that looks like a stabbed man (apologies if anyone finds that offensive or triggering).

Does anyone have this? Are they any good - or more of a gimmick?

I have some great Japanese knives. Tojiro are great and reasonably priced.

Buy knives you are going to use, the right size and weight rather than ones for show, then buy a rack or block to suit. there is no point buying a santoku knife if you will be frightened to use it, likewise no need for a filleting knife if your vegetarian. I recommend ProCook if you have a branch near you.

Procook is your best high street option. I buy the ones I need rather than a set

Thanks everyone. I definitely don't need anything "all-singing all-dancing", but I made a complete pigs ear of the meat at Christmas (which was beef, not pig), but I'm not going to be filleting fish for sushi anytime soon.

Maybe I need to rethink the block option.

Will have a look at ProCook

Good knives are a pleasure to use and last for years if you look after them, buy a steel and learn how to use it and NEVER put them in the dishwasher.
