Nature homework

Hi,

My DC year group who are in reception have been given a quote & they have to do a painting, drawing or collage based on/around that quote.

The quote is:

“Cherish the natural world because you’re a part of it and depend on it.”
by David Attenborough.

Has anyone got any really good ideas as to what to paint based on that quote? Or I was thinking more of a collage. It’s a competition so I’m feeling a little competitive haha, hoping the lovely people of mumsnet can help with some great ideas!

I would cover myself in leaves and live in a forest for a week and submit an interpretive dance piece based on my experience. Or just let them draw their favourite animal and not be bothered by the competitive element.

How about a food chain? A Bee, a Flower, some food on a plate and your child?

Brilliant idea.

Or how about your child as a tree in a forest with its roots in the soil depending on the earth for food and water and all of nature - plants, animals, fungi, weather etc as leaves on the tree? Could be a four part picture featuring all four seasons as part of the rhythm and cycle of life - grow, produce fruit, reproduce, rest.

I like the collage idea, easy for you child to do on their own if they can’t draw. I also like the food chain as well.

or a favourite place the like to visit.

The Wildlife trust has a '30 days Go Wild' challenge you could get inspiration from.

Harder to do in the Winter, but a scavenger hunt to make a rainbow using things from nature is always a winner with little ones.

Use clear tape or glue on your finds.

If you have access to a colour photocopier, photocopy the whole thing if doing it in advance - that way, you have something lovely to keep, and it won’t wilt or fade.

Use little cardboard people and dress them in leaves and flowers.

I haven’t tried it, but have seen a lovely activity using leaf printing with paint, then cut out into the shape of child’s’ hand prints to show the similarity between the veins on leaves and the lines on your hands and fingers.

Make natural dye using plants, and tie dye a cheap t shirt to wear. Really easy to do, if a little time consuming.

Make natural paints, use to paint a self portrait.

Isn't it meant to be for the children to do?

They are in Reception. You are overthinking this by a mile and three quarters.
