Help identifying what is biting my dd!

My DD consistently has these bites - the rest of us do not get them and i literally cannot figure out what is going on.

i have absolutely gutted her bedroom, just incase there is something in there, have googled all of the usual things and there is no evidence of bugs that the internet says would be there i.e black flecks or blood if it was bedbugs.

we are generally a very clean household, regularly cleaning all of the house etc.

we do have a cat , but no sign of fleas and presumably we would all be getting bitten if it was that?

if anyone can help me figure out what is biting that would be amazing thank you..

Buy some diatomaceous earth and sprinkle it all over the carpets and especially in her room. I think people even put it on the cats but Google it as I can't remember. It shreds the flea exoskeleton
It definitely could be fleas as only some people are allergic to their bites and react
Buy Indorex spray and go nuts with it it's really good
Hydrocortisone on her bites
She's not allergic to the cat maybe ? And showing up as hives ?

I bought some and it was useless, Indorex was excellent though.

Can you afford to get someone professional in.?

ActiveTiger · 12/01/2026 01:27

Fleas can live in carpets, holes in wall under furniture etc you will never see them, eggs can be anywhere, in the house, if you de flea a room you need to do the whole house at the same time as eggs just hatch and produce madly. Quite often they won't bite the whole household either they have certain preferences

Yes, I will have to do that if the advice on here doesnt work! Have ordered the room spray and will get in touch with the vet too to see if there is anything stronger / if they will check the cat over.

so odd as we have had him 4 years and never had a problem with fleas..,

Does she walk through grass? I had a phase of having these and think they were harvest mites. Not everyone reacts to them which might be why it is just her.

They look like my flea bites when I get them as I am allergic to flea bites. I always get bitten before anyone else in the household. Frontline stopped working on my cats years ago. I buy advantage from pet drugs online. Then a really good flea spray on all floors, mattresses, and chairs/sofas/curtains.

Poppingby · 12/01/2026 08:20

I would change her mattress. That was the only thing that worked when my daughter had mysterious bites and we'd treated everything for fleas etc.

Your vet is robbing you! My vet stopped prescribing Frontline a few years ago as fleas are immune to it! Fleas are nasty little things, they are so good at hiding.

Give all of her soft toys a wash too, they are havens for fleas, dust mites and other creepy crawlies.

Or if washing is a pain put them in the freezer

DS is often the only one in the house who gets bitten if we forget to deflea the cat. Indorex is amazing, treat once, problem solved. I would try that, if it doesn't resolve then it might be the bird mites/bedbugs.

Easy way to check for bedbugs - hang a mosquito net over her bed, they will climb up it and get stuck. We had them when we lived overseas, thought it was mossies at first till we put a net up and found them trapped in the morning 🤢

This is what I look like when I have cat flea bites- me and my eldest get them but my other 2 were completely fine, not a thing on them. My sympathies if this is what it is OP because they were awful to get rid off. Hoovering everything multiple times a day, washing all textiles on boil washes, steaming carpets and sofas repeadily plus shop bought pesticides only ever kept them at bay. Had to pay for professional fumigation and repeating the above to actually get rid permanently. Also take the cat to the vet fir fleeing every month because I was using store bought for him which clearly wasn't working and started the whole thing! Bizarrely the fleas didn't seem to bother him! He annoyingly looked incredibly smug about it. Wouldn't put it past him to have caught them on purpose.
