Your best ever holiday with teenagers

I’m getting fed up with the dark and cold and need something to look forward to. Thinking about a holiday next summer after exams or later in the year.
Looking for inspiration. What have been your best holidays with teenagers? Mine will be 16 and 19 and will hopefully still want to come with me! Any budget. Cheap and cheerful or once in a lifetime.

Florida theme parks was definitely the best although wouldn’t have gone in summer as none of us cope with heat well. We are going to hit a few countries this summer, Germany, Austria and Switzerland with 2 days in Europa Park so hoping that goes well. We are based near the borders in 2 locations rather than doing a road trip. Have picked Airbnbs with separate rooms for both teens to reduce arguments.

Definitely Cairo

In Morzine with Alpine Elements

Thanks. I am feeling the creep of finite summers as eldest turns 17 this spring 😥

Loving this thread with so much inspiration! My youngest is now 18 so also feeling the time limitations although they seem more than happy to come along as long as we’re paying!

Also glad to see our plans for this summer several times on this thread - Mexico road trip including Valladolid, Bacalar, Xcaret, Isla Mujeres (latter inspired by Race Across the World!) Can’t wait!

Louloubelles · 12/01/2026 21:56

I get inspired by race across the world every year!
So many brilliant suggestions here. I’ll spend a happy few hours researching next weekend. I used trailfinders for my first big solo trip with my kids and it was super easy and very well organised. I don’t feel like I need so much of a hand hold these days so if I decide to do a multi centre trip I’ll look at organising it myself. Alps…Mexico….Borneo…Butlins, who knows 😃

Definitely Mexico! The excursion options are incredible and will give you fun and excitement whichever one you choose some of the ones we did and loved were- jungle zip-lining, water obstacle course, caving, senote swimming, driving the cars in and out of the water and caves- we loved it and we are not a ‘active family’

We had three trips to Egypt when my daughter was 13, 14, and 16, and they were all wonderful for slightly different reasons. We were based in Luxor each time, at different hotels, and we went on trips to Cairo, Aswan, and Abu Simbel the first two trips, as well as seeing all the Luxor sights. The third time was just after my daughter had finished her GCSEs and my brother had just passed away, and we stayed at a gorgeous hotel at Karnak, and enjoyed a couple of weeks of luxury and revisiting some of our favourite local attractions and restaurants. We also had a really memorable holiday to Sri Lanka when my daughter was 12, and another when she was 15 when we hired a car and drove round Phuket in Thailand.

Ours each brought a friend and we hired a narrow boat on a canal in the Midlands. It was fab!

Another vote here for Japan. It was at the request of my then 17yo DD who is very into Japanese culture. We were there for 2 weeks and spent time in Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Miyajima island and Hakone. We all loved it and would like to go back.

This year we are off to America for the World Cup! Atlanta, Boston and Miami

We did inter-railing. Went for two weeks and stayed in four places. Stayed in nice accommodation and did day trips.

Just after my son’s GCSEs we all had 2 weeks travelling around California. He was 15 at the time (young for the year), my daughter was 13 and my youngest was 9 so younger than yours but the kind of holiday that would appeal to any age. It was action packed, we didn’t stay anywhere longer than 3 nights, mostly just 2. It was amazing!

We did LA and Santa Barbara with a 15 year old lad for 10 days with car. He’s now 27 but still talks that his coolest moment ever was sitting round the pool at the Mondrian ordering room service with a bevvy of very glam late teens having a photo shoot done for a TV series - we gave him a budget and strict instructions and went 15 minutes away for a meal and drink . He very much enjoyed that holiday and it was our last ‘big’ holiday with him although he’s done 4 or 5 day city breaks with us elsewhere since
