Hairdresser chronic verbal diarrhoea

My hairdresser is lovely. I don’t want to go elsewhere because he does a great job and is a short stroll from my house. The problem is this. He talks and talks and talks and when he is talking the comb or brush or whatever he is holding becomes suspended and doesn’t move until he’s finished his story. He can’t talk and do hair at the same time. He could shave an hour off my visit if he learnt to multi task. How can I very politely tell him to keep going with the hair? What should take 2 hours is taking 3. I work a 40 hour week so my spare time is very precious and I don’t want it wasted.

I don't think you can because it's his style of working. What you can do is take something with you and explain that you're sorry you can't chat to him today as you have to read this document/book for work/homework whatever and then concentrate on that instead. Anything else would be likely to offend as some people are naturally chatty and other than that he's doing a really good job and presumably not charging you by the hour.

Just move hairdressers, it would be rude & unkind of you to say something to him.,

Go else where. They're not likely to change.

“I’m really sorry if I’m a bit quiet today Sasoon but I’ve had an exhausting, worrying, stressful week so I’m not feeling very sociable/talkative today. I’m just goina sit back and let you work your magic.”

Dont ask him anything, zilch, nada. He’ll soon dry up! (Hopefully!)

Some people like this kind of interaction and some don’t. If you don’t then go elsewhere. I love a good chat when I’m getting my hair done as it’s a good opportunity to catch up and it ‘me time’.

But my hair stylist doesn’t take 3 hours. I did have a previous one who took much longer and charged far more and I moved.
