Non-iron bedding

I'm a slothful person, but unrepentant. I'm happy to put time and effort into smoothing, hanging and folding bed linen between washing machine and airing cupboard, but not into ironing.

The last acceptable duvet sets I've had were bought 4-5 years ago from M&S - 50/50 polycotton. Since then I've bought a couple of sets online (Fusion and Catherine Lansfield) which were hugely disappointing - flimsy material with a very low thread count.

I'm not sure whether polycotton is still a thing these days, or if there are other terms that describe non-iron bedding. Can you enlighten me, please? Suggestions of brands that you've found good would be welcome, too (price not hugely important). TIA

The last really nice set I had were from Sainsburys! It was several years ago though. Not the cheapest, but not deluxe either.

Lovely and smooth feeling, and easy to smooth out without ironing.

Mine is pure cotton but I tumble dry it and fold immediately. It looks fine.

I buy waffle bedding, or the stuff with a tufted pattern on ... white stuff or M and S. Always looks goid, no ironing h needed.

All bedding is non iron if you just don't iron it...

Polycotton is still standard but I go for 100% cotton / linen these days. Life is too short to iron.

I've never ironed bedding. Always buy pure egyptian cotton with a high ish thread count. I rather have slightly creased bedding than sleep in uncomfortable polycotyon.

TheLette · 11/01/2026 10:02

Ditto have never ironed bedding! I tend to look for a higher thread count cotton (minimum 220). John Lewis and M&S is generally fine, ignore the more budget / cheaper ranges tho from those brands

I have a bit of a quick cheat. I put the bedding on the bed. Warm the iron up, unplug and run the iron over the bedding in situ, using the steam burst. Quick and easy.

ElegantFowl · 11/01/2026 12:07

We just put it on the bed and don’t care about ironing.

TheNextStationIs · 11/01/2026 12:13

I would rather have 100% cotton that hasn't been ironed than polycotton that's meant to be non-iron. Even more so if you expect to go through menopause in the lifetime of this bedding!

I buy linen…looks fine unironed

Mum2Fergus · 11/01/2026 12:16

I don’t currently even possess an iron, but when I did I didn’t waste time ironing bedding.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 11/01/2026 12:18

I bought some non iron sets and I don't know the material but they had a way of not clinging to the duvet inside and clung to the legs instead. They were fine in winter as I wear long PJs but I hated them in summer. I got rid of them. My son had a set too and said the same thing. I'm just buying cotton from now on and I don't bother ironing, I tumble dry and fold very carefully and that's about it

Elsbetka · 11/01/2026 14:33

I'm not a fan of polycotton and much prefer 100% cotton. Once in France I slept on the loveliest percale bedsheets but have never found any of the same quality over here for a reasonable price (wistful face).

I'll be honest though OP - I but cotton jersey fitted sheets (IKEA) and 100% cotton bedding from anywhere I find it (M&S, IKEA, Sainsbury's, La Redoute)...and I never blinking iron any of it 😳 I tend to dry it on the ine outside if poss and that blows a lot of creases out but I'm just not that bothered.
