Abdominal weirdness

DD is 19. She fell over on the ice today and skinned her arm. When she showed it to me I felt a fluttery sensation in my ... I was going to say abdomen but really it's in I guess my womb/ladyparts. I've noticed before that I feel it when I'm in a situation where I perceive I'm in danger, but not when I've actually injured myself. I also feel it when one of my kids injures themselves. That doesn't happen often now, because they're older so they don't fall over very much, which is why I noticed it today, because it's been a while since I felt it.

I'm guessing there's some kind of evolutionary mechanism /biological imperative going on here, but asking the internet (which admittedly is monumentally shit these days) isn't giving me coherent answers.

Does anyone else experience this and/or know what causes it?

I get it too, had it the other day when dh skinned both knees. Like a tummy flip low down.....or like when a baby does a somersault in your tummy. I think it's called collywobbles.

I get the same in various situations. Would love to know why

Thank you! I knew I couldn't be the only one who experienced this. I've never discussed it with friends, probably because I generally don't talk about my fanny with friends!

I only noticed it after I had my first child. Before then I'd get tummy lurching (so, higher up) if I was nervous, but the clenchy low flutter only happened after I'd had a baby.

Maybe some nerve weirdness. Or maybe just part of the many changes we go through in becoming mothers.

I get this too. If I’m watching telly and there’s a fight or something, I get the fanny flutters when someone gets punched. I used to think it meant I was a sado-masochist. I was a bit concerned but I’ve had it my entire adult life and I have never gone down that particular path of gratification from violence so I’m not worried it means that now. I’ve

MammaWeasel · 11/01/2026 02:38

"Fanny flutters" !! 🤣🤣🤣

Firdbeeder · 11/01/2026 03:11

Oh wow me too. I feel like it starts in my womb area but what feels like a shock runs through my whole body. It happens when I see something painful or disturbing. And yes it started after pregnancy with me too. A similar feeling must have existed beforehand but the aspect that feels like an electric shock didn’t.

AnchorWHAT · 11/01/2026 15:53

I get it too, when there is conflict, actual violence, blood injuries etc, also when I am high up near the edge of a cliff or something, basically anywhere that feels a bit dangerous. Like the term collywobbles, seems to sum it up for me.

RealLemonDreamer · 11/01/2026 17:45

It’s like an electric shock fanny flutters and goose bumps all rolled into one isn’t it 😆

Hohofortherobbers · 11/01/2026 18:07

Inthink I get this, is it similar to the feeling when you drive a bit quick over a humpback bridge?

Straightjacketsandroses · 11/01/2026 18:18

So we’ve had this discussion in our family and we all get this feeling in a different place! Mine is in my thighs and is kind of like an electric shock almost - quite unpleasant - in anticipation of pain, or watching someone get hurt.
