Anyone know Bristol city centre well and able to help me plan a birthday afternoon for my DD (19)

It’s DD’s birthday soon and it will also be the first birthday that she won’t be here due to university which she and I are feeling quite sad about (DH not so much!! 😅) I originally thought there was not much I could do about it however having just checked train line they have a random day Jan sale and next Saturday which hugely reduces the train fares between here and Bristol, where she is and the weekend before her birthday.

I am thinking of surprising her with a lunch and a mini treasure hunt consisting of a tattoo walk in appointment somewhere decent, if possible. A nice lunch, a gift and hopefully a few drinks too.

We have been to Bristol a few times but don’t know it well enough to know all the “cool” spots and certainly not a recommended tattoo artist/shops, can anyone local or familiar with Bristol give me any pointers and maybe any ideas that a 19 year old music student would find quite fun.

For tattoo artists, look up Eresid Ink (Vienna) on Instagram.

Can't help with cool spots though, although I would suggest you're best to avoid the city centre and try the parts of Bristol with lovely independents...Clifton, Redland, Gloucester Road

Gloucester Road have loads of lovely cafes and bars, good restaurants etc

Gloucester Road is good or whiteladies road. If you want something to do eg it’s raining the city museums are free. Can’t help with tattoos but there’s a great record shop near cabot place and this bowling come pizza cone craft beer and gig venue that dsd likes to meet at. Alternatively there’s a darts bar dsd likes too. As far as food the dc always want to go to Za Za Bazaar, big buffet place, cheap cocktails

Amazing, thank you, I’ll check Gloucester RD and Eresid ink out!! 😊

Have a look at wake the tiger. St Nicholas market.

North Street in Southville is alive with street art, cafes, bars and the Tobacco Factory theatre. From there you can walk along and over the river to the city docks where there are art galleries, museums and lots of other great places to eat and drink. Arnofini gallery is often worth a visit. .

I would start on Park Street for lunch, and walk along Park Row, through Stokes Croft to Gloucester Road for dinner. There are so many bars, restaurants and pubs along those roads, as well as tattoo places. Park Street is great for clothes shopping.

Wake the Tiger looks amazing!

These are all great ideas, thank you so much, will need to get on Google maps and work out distance from them all.

My train gets into Temple Mead and DD’s accommodation is around King St but obviously don’t know where all these great ideas are from either. 😅

All sounds lovely but when you say "surprise" do you mean turning up on her doorstep?!

What if she has arranged something with friends for that day? Plus if you give her notice she can look forward to it and get ready for it 😀.
