How many times did you use the NHS last year?

bumchic · 10/01/2026 10:34

Me - none
DH - 4 GP appointments for acne
DS1 - one overnight hospital for an operation after shoving a button up his nose, flu vaccine through school
DS2 - flu vaccine
DD - flu vaccine, one consultant appointment for a congenital condition that we have annually

Plus 2 x dentist for all

I think this is quite low. No point to this - there have been years it’s been way higher

Me- a few times due to a broken bone
dh and dc- none. But I have Bupa cover and dc used it for physio that would’ve otherwise been a very long wait on the nhs.

dancingthroughthelightningstrike · 10/01/2026 11:31

Why do you want to know though @bumchic
You say there’s no point to this but that can’t be completely true?

FTR I’ve used it a shitload for various reasons. Mainly prescriptions and check ups but I’ve needed several appointments.

I don’t think there’s a prize for low usage other than being fortunate you seem to be healthy.

Fifthtimelucky · 10/01/2026 11:34

One appointment, for a shingles jab (I was also offered a flu jab but declined).

I also had a couple of prescriptions for antibiotics from the dentist (I don’t have an NHS dentist, but the prescriptions were free because I’m over 60).

Just two prescriptions through the GP's website, nothing else. Year before there were more things.

TimetodoEverything · 10/01/2026 11:36

Me- 2 hospital appointments (not had to go to GP for years) plus mammogram in a supermarket car park.

DH - none
DC1 - Flu vaccine at school
DC2 - just flu vaccine plus some other vaccine at school

When everyone in my village mains about the GP surgery being overrun due to all these newcomers (which includes us) - I think, well it’s not my household! I think combined GP visits for the four of us in five years is one visit.

Very very thankful for the NHS.

CrushingOnRubies · 10/01/2026 11:37

2 dentist trips
1 blood test. Maybe 2. Routine.
1/2 Gp appointments for an illness resulting in antibiotics
4 contraception jabs
changed Gp surgery so 1 new patient consultation
flu & covid jabs

think that’s it. Better than some years

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/01/2026 11:38

Ds1 dentist, 1x pharmacist for skin rash
ds2 dentist, pharmacist x2 for sore throat and ear
me dentist, gp x1 for odd neurological symptoms- follow up is private
dh - ignores all health issues and never sees anyone. It’s a sore subject.,

TimetodoEverything · 10/01/2026 11:40

I’m amazed how many posters had NHS dentist visits, I thought that was impossible in most places now. Even my DC aren’t under NHS dentist anymore.

TeenToTwenties · 10/01/2026 11:41

Myself? Repeat prescriptions only.

My DM however had a 10 day stay in hospital entered via ambulance & A&E. Excellent care.

Octavia64 · 10/01/2026 11:42

Smear
flu jab
asthma review
multiple (at least six) telephone medication reviews (separately for each medication)
pharmacist for antibiotics for uti
minor injuries for antibiotics for ear infection
ambulance when I collapsed after an infection

private gp for antibiotics for another ear indecrion

i’m severely disabled and infections make me very ill.

GCAcademic · 10/01/2026 11:42

Only for repeat prescriptions.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 10/01/2026 11:42

Private birth

2 nights in NHS SCBU for baby
NHS HV & baby weigh ins
baby vax
baby skin infection treatment

LostittoBostik · 10/01/2026 11:49

Loads, but mainly for my DC who are both under the care of a range of paediatric clinicians.

Squirrelchops1 · 10/01/2026 11:50

2 x dentist
1 x travel vaccination
1 x smear

LikeNoYeah · 10/01/2026 11:55

Me - smear test, GP appointment x 2, dentist x 2
DH - over 50s health check only
DD - dentist
DS is type 1 diabetic, and saw his diabetes nurse x 3, endocrinologist x 1, GP x 3, dentist/optician/podiatrist for specialist checks.

PurpleLovecats · 10/01/2026 12:00

Me - probably 40+ mental health appointments with CMHT
10 telephone GP appointments re mental health
2 x ECG
2 x blood tests
2 x GP appointments re blood tests/ECG
1 x asthma check
1 x BP check
4 x A and E trips for MH
2 x ambulances for MH.

DH- 1 GP appointment that led to:
2 x scans
1 x biopsy
1 further unrelated scan (routine)

Have self discharged from NHS so hoping for a quieter year!

PensionMention · 10/01/2026 12:00

2 dentist visits, I pay for treatment
2 visits for heart issues at hospital investigations-ongoing
Smear test
1 GP visit

DH 1 GP, 1 dentist pays for treatment
DS 1 GP, 1 dentist pays for treatment

It was a lot for us. DH has had 3 GP appointments and 1 hospital consult plus 1 trip to A&E after an accident when knocked unconscious in 30 years,

The last time I had a GP visit had been a year before, a decade for DH and DS hadn’t been for about 5 years. DH and I pay for the flu jab privately.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 10/01/2026 12:01

Just me. Mammogram and countless weekly appointments as diagnosed with bipolar 2 and attempting a I get stable with therapy and meds.

singthing · 10/01/2026 12:02

I haven't been inside the surgery since my last smear and I just got a reminder for another one, so, 3 or 5 years?

I got a couple of covid jabs when they were done en masse in a local village hall, and I 'used' the NHS via Tesco pharmacy for a flu jab a couple of times.

My dentist went private in 2020.

TheNameWasOnceChosen · 10/01/2026 12:08

God I don't even think I can remember !

6 GP appointments - asking to put things in place.

Three phone call from a specialist.
Two meet ups with a different specialist.
One meet up with a third specialist.
Physo - once every 2 weeks.
EMS appointment at hospital plus follow up.
6 MRI' s
One local hospital visit
One local hospital visit
3 dentists

I'm sure there's more

dazedbutstillhere · 10/01/2026 12:11

Had a follow up eye appointment in community clinic.
Saw my GP in March for a gynae problem - referred to hospital but still waiting as no appointments.
Then had a heart attack out of the blue. Once I got to hospital they were absolutely wonderful. Spent 24 hours on a trolley in resus, then had an angiogram plus stent. Almost didn't get there due to 999 call handler refusing to send ambulance - this was terrifying.

MargaretThursday · 10/01/2026 12:52

Me - I received 3 irrelevant text messages after leaving messages asking for an appointment
Dc- dd2 has regular medication for migraines, ds had a dentist check up, and one irrelevant email from the GP
Dh - none

Mum2Fergus · 10/01/2026 12:56

DS, DH and I had flu jabs…that’s it. I give blood every 3months (or when I get the text asking for more), don’t know if that counts.

Flooph · 10/01/2026 12:56

Me: couldn’t count - cancer treatment and complications, mini stroke, broken ankle.

DH: also couldn’t count - heart attack, angina and severe anxiety due to my cancer diagnosis.

DS: thanks goodness nothing, saw a private therapist for help with my cancer diagnosis and private dentist.

Kirbert2 · 10/01/2026 12:57

Me - dentist
DH - dentist
Son - loads. He had cancer in 2024 and is now disabled as a result of some complications plus the follow up oncology appointments etc.
