If you have tonsil stones

I've just discovered something.

I had one lodged this morning. Tried ear buds and couldnt budge it. It was really annoying me.

Kids had mcds yesterday and one of them had put an unused paper straw in the drawer. It was perfect for getting the stone out. I just encircled the stone with the end of the straw and gently pushed and it popped out into the straw!

Ita strong enough the put pressure on but only paper so it doesnt scratch or cause damage like a metal or plastic one would.

Little gross but its the fastest Ive ever been able to get rid of one.

Good tip.

Doesn’t it make you sick or gag sticking it in your throat?

I use the smaller end of one of those blackhead remover tools. Perfect size and shape to scoop the stone out, and it means you can remove it from your mouth entirely.

I bought one of these for this purpose but it just didn't work for me.

No, but I've been delaing with them for 20 years so am probably just immune now.

I use a tonsil stone remover tool, it's just a small loop on the end of a plastic rod, does the job. Since using The Breath Co mouthwash though there's been a big decrease in how much I get them.

I use one of these aswell.
why do some people get them and not others?
im really good with oral hygiene and find it unfair that I get these! Dh is also on top of looking after his teeth and never gets these.

I’m not a medical/dental professional so can’t tell you for sure, but, for me, diet plays a big part. If I eat a lot of bread and white soft carbs, I definitely notice an increase in tonsil stones.

I don’t think it’s anything to do with dental hygiene (mine is really good also. I had a regular dental checkup yesterday and all great).

I think it depends on the tonsils too. Mine are very cratered from years of tonsillitis so there’s just more space for food and bacteria to hide.

I used to get tonsil stones every couple of weeks. I started using listerine mouthwash to gargle day and night (the purple one or the greeny/blue) one and now I get one about every 6ish months. It’s made a huge difference.
