Wearing makeup at primary school.

There is a girl in my child’s class that is wearing a lot of make up and is getting away with it. It’s quite extensive, false eye lashes and acrylic nails amongst a full face.

Am I just being old fashioned but should this not be unacceptable and be made to remove? Im not sure why the school have allowed this as it’s been slowly getting worse over the years. Shes only 10/11 and completely inappropriate in my opinion and quite sexualised.

Poor child. Yes I would hope the teachers would suggest she removes it.

mismomary · 10/01/2026 07:25

Dreadful. Poor girl needs guidance here ie told to stop.

It's really nothing at all to do with you.

That’s very sad. I’m surprised school
allow it. I doubt a secondary will.

It is when the girl laughs at the features of others because they have “bushy eyebrows” etc. It is when my daughter cries because they are being made fun of.

That’s a separate issue. The bullying matters, I’d focus on that

So the issue is that she is bullying other children then, nothing to do with her wearing make-up. Let the teacher know that the child is saying unkind things and teach your child to respond assertively.

Schools should send out a letter saying make up is not allowed for any child. Then follow up with individual children I think it’s a safeguarding issue when 10-year-old comes in with full make up but I suspect your exaggerating a bit.

I dunno! The hair is bleached, belly button pierced, eye lashes glued on, acrylic nails, foundation, eye liner, contouring and lipstick…….it is an awful lot. It’s still happening despite parents voicing their concern. I don’t know why face wipes aren’t available in school and they are told to remove if the parents are allowing it.

Belly button piercing on a 10 yo? Really?

That’s the only one I haven’t seen with own eyes by my daughter assured me she has shown it to everyone. It sounds ridiculous to even write it so I don’t blame anyone if they don’t agree. Anyway I emailed in again the other day so will see what happens.

I mean other parents really don’t have a right to say something.

It’s bizarre and quite unlikely a 10 year old or under has full beached hair, fake eyelashes and acrylic nails daily but regardless it’s an issue between the school, the parents and the girl.
It’s got nothing to do with you or the other parents discussing it.

Why are you emailing the school multiple times about what another child looks like?
It’s a bit unhinged.

Because it’s part of the policy so the rest of the kids have to follow the rules. It’s causing bullying and differences so the rules should be kept to by everyone to stop this happening. I was fine until she pointed her finger at my daughters appearance.

You need to focus on the unkindness (bullying) towards your DD. This should be the only comment you are making to the school. The appearance of the other child isn’t anything to do with you and I’m assuming the teacher have noticed her appearance and will take whatever steps are required. I do agree her use of adult beauty items isn’t right and the school should take a firmer line (no make up rules) but it’s not your place to email about that only about her being mean about your DDs appearance.

ShetlandishMum · 12/03/2026 08:22

None of your business.

Of course that is the focus of my emails and the only reason I sent an email. The make up has been going on for over a year already. But the make up is the issues here. The girl thinks the appearance of the “natural” girls is laughable. Mocking others eyebrows, hair colour. There is a reason schools have uniform rules and that’s to stop bullying so they at this age dress similar. There is a no make up rule in the schools policy. If she had no make up then she would be the same natural state and not pick out others natural states. Obviously the parent is allowing it which is sad for the little girl as underneath she’s just as lovely as the rest.
